If true, good riddance. I hope the TTC learned from their mistake.

At least that’s what I heard..

I would like to see an official statement before it can be considered true. If so that's not going to look very good on BYD. A few bus systems returned or canceled their orders.

Yeah for sure, but tbh I wouldn't be too surprised. The buses never were able to fit through some overpasses in city due to the height, safety issues (which they never disclosed to the public), battery discharge issues and electrical system issues, and a buggy system in general along with quality control problems. You'd think after all the garbage the city has ordered in the past they'd learn by now, but they definitely didn't. BYD bus #3752 actually came back to the city recently (not sure if it's still here), I think a week or two ago. It was the only unit here and it wasn't even on TTC property, it was at 843 Eastern Avenue (311 City Vehicle maintenance area). I guess lets see what happens because there is bound to be an official announcement or something soon about the situation eventually...

How did they even accept them into service to begin with? surely they must have measured the height when they arrived.

I'm not aware of any specific on-road locations where the BYDs were restricted from; but that's not saying they may not exist somewhere in the City.

The one incident I am aware of occurred inside Don Mills Station; the height limit for BYDs over the roadway was fine, but one bus mounted the curb as they were turning out of a platform, and that allowed the bus to come into contact with the mechanical ventilation over the passenger platforms.

So where are the others? Scrap station or BYD's plant in Newmarket?

The Orion VII HEV barely has enough clearance to fit under those vents as well. I believe this was a NO CNG station as well when they were around.

The TTC can accommodate for specific locational concerns, and has a long history of doing so previously. Prohibiting CNG buses from certain stations was one of the most visible. For a time, hybrids were also partially restricted from 35 Jane at one point due to clearance with the canopy at the furthest east bay at Jane Station; this was resolved by extending the platform edge.

The issue with BYD buses was resolved by not assigning them to routes out of Don Mills Station (since they're all based at Eglinton, that only really applies to the 25/925). But it's an overcomable issue, and not something that would necessitate their sudden retirement from the system.

I think there was also a problem with the wheel axles bc a few buses had to get maintenance on that quite a few times above normal. There was a BYD bus that had something fail while it was doing a tight turn. There was also many more consistent issues with the buses not handling sharp turns properly as well and who knows what else there is that wasn't disclosed.

I guess they don't use the standard ZF front axle.

EDIT. They do use ZF from axles. https://en.byd.com/bus/k9m/

Someone said that #3752 was the only unit here in the city,  while I saw #3754 in Eglinton garage today. On TransSee this unit is "Last Seen" in August, hence I have no idea if it's the first unit that BYD returns, or it just secretly stays in the garage for months and no one discovered. (p.s. #3752 not found)

Also to add to this, #3751 and 3757 are back and were at Wilson Station with a bunch of orange vest guys inside. Both returned to Arrow Road Garage and they are right at the back, just barely visible from the fence. #3759 is also at Arrow Road next to #3751, the electric bus wrap is gone and its missing its bike rack.

It is what I believe that #3754 never ended up moving from that location in the first place, but just nobody noticed it was still here because its only one of two tracking in eglinton while the rest that moved around aren't tracking. #3752 must also be at Eglinton, maybe inside.

This is interesting. It reveals that now those BYDs might use DC charging, as I believe only Eglinton has the AC charging used to be dedicated to BYD.

Arrow doesn't have AC charging. They are just there for whatever they are doing with them. Perhaps there is a convertor or maybe they shift from Eglinton to there time to time

Or it’s just a convenient place to store them before being offloaded. Arrow does have more square footage than any other division.

According to the new service summary, the XE40s will be split with Arrow Road and Birchmount so I assume Arrow will retain 15 while Birchmount will get 10?

Yup, 3715-3724 to Bmt, 3700-3714 will stay at Arrow

the byd bus that was involved in the accident at don mills station did not mount the curb.  The driver did a manuever called over hang maneuver.  it is a maneuver where a portion of the bus (right before the front axel) was laying over the sidewalk or in this case the platform in order to make the bus align closer to the platform.
