A divine bus returns to Scarborough Centre full time on a nine-day old 199 FINCH ROCKET (formerly the 39C/E FINCH EAST EXPRESS) service. #7039 is seen here picking up passengers on October 21, 2010.

For those who need in the know, anyone here should edit the wiki since I found the entry dates for these vehicles dated April 2000 (shout out to Fleet Manager, whoever ran it):
https://web.archive.org/web/20010603205821/http://fleetmanager.tripod.com/BusList.pdf

Notably, #1001 entered service on July 28, 1998.

Orion V buses #7014 and #7023 were the first Orion V lifts to enter service out of Arrow Road on July 8, 1996 with #7034 the last on September 10. Those were found on the 36, 46, 60, 84, 106 and 108. Malvern's #7079, #7084, #7085, #7088, #7098, #7099, and #7101 entered service on August 2, 1996 which they ran on the 21, 39, 53, 57, and 85.

#9414, a CNG, also entered service on November 25, 1996.

You left out quite a few buses there

Good link, though. Thanks for sharing.

Just went through this thread - surprised no ones reminiscing or missing the D40's. The originals, not the LF's.

Hmm, the D40s always seemed to "fly" below the radar. I don't recall many strong feelings about them, good or bad -- even among (New) Flyer devotées in Queensway territory. Obviously, others feel free to weigh in.

Each order was slightly different and visibly so -- in my mind, that made it hard to think of all D40s as a single fleet. Each set of ~60-70 units felt like a "one-off". The last batch in 1990 (6560-6638) had Cummins engines and powerful A/C plants; those had a bit of a following.

I found a few photos (ca 2007) in my archive:

Here is 6454 on her way to the Expo grounds. Generally at this point their lives, they only came near Downtown on shuttles or streetcar replacement services:

Ah yes, a far more typical sight -- departing a subway station at the outer reaches of the system. On a relaxed Saturday morning, 6500 sets out from Royal York station for points north:

TTC6500T.thumb.JPG.d9afb4000225fb51a48e7b88633182ed.JPG

Moments later, 6504 delivers yet another quintessential scene. Here she is arriving at Royal York subway after a short trip on Route 76. Doesn't get any more Queensway than that!

(incidentally, this is one of my very favourite pictures in my whole collection!)

Enjoy!

GM Maroon Cream

TTC Buses 1981 - 1991

I can't post them all, but they're all great shots of various vehicles and a run down memory lane.

GPS Videos

Lots of videos to digest, enjoy

I saw that coming but thank you.

When push comes to shove, does anybody have any route allocation lists between January 4, 1993 to February 17, 1996? I know there are a number of notable routes assigned to the following divisions:

- 54 LAWRENCE EAST - Birchmount and Eglinton
- 66 PRINCE EDWARD - Lansdowne
- 86 SCARBOROUGH - Malvern

- 95 YORK MILLS - Birchmount and Wilson
- 161 ROGERS ROAD - Eglinton

On April 20, 2013, I saw GM Classics 6221 and 6223 in a parking lot off Norfinch Drive and got to have a little photoshoot with them in ways that weren't possible on crowded rush hour routes after dark when I was chasing Classics in late 2008/2009. I wasn't thrilled about the snow but in retrospect, if it hadn't been overcast and grey then the background would've been blown out quite spectacularly, and that would've been much worse.

Both buses were initially allocated to Lansdowne division when built in June 1987, but neither lasted there very long: both buses were moved to the old Eglinton garage (on the site of today’s Eglinton bus terminal) by April 1988. 6221 remained allocated there for the remainder of that garage’s lifespan; 6223 returned to Lansdowne in the summer of 1993 and remained there until that garage closed on February 18, 1996. Thereafter it returned to Eglinton, and when that garage closed in March 2002 both buses were moved to the New Eglinton garage on Comstock Road.

They remained there for several years, but with the arrival of the Orion VII buses both left for Birchmount in the spring of 2005. Both returned to New Eglinton again for a few more months - 6223 in August/September 2005, and 6221 in the autumn, presumably to deal with a bus shortage. 6223 permanently left for Birchmount in May 2006, and 6221 followed in July 2006.

6221 last ran with passengers in June 2008. That month, it was shipped to the Toronto Islands to run as a shuttle bus for passengers and workers living there. 6223 continued to run in service on the mainland until the end of Classic passenger service in March 2009; at that point, 6221 returned to the mainland, and 6223 took her place on the islands. Neither bus saw revenue service again, but this practice continued for several years, even as the buses were moved to Mount Dennis garage in January 2010. They were off the road in September 2010 and retired in February 2012. In early 2013, they were sold to a community centre in northwestern Toronto, and they remained part of their property for several years. Sadly, both buses were scrapped around 2016.

Where's the Nortown trolley?

That exact time period  That exact corner.  That exact view.  That exact question.  I did that so many times that I remember it all perfectly but I never thought I'd actually see it again like that.  I can't believe there's a picture.

I kind of suspect this photo was taken in the middle of the day since there isn't a bus in sight.  There were tons of fishbowls that would be climbing up and down the hill on Eglinton but that's not what I was looking for when I was staring down the street like this.  If I was on NE corner of Eglinton and Avenue Rd. looking down towards Yonge St. like that, it wasn't to see fishbowls other than to strike them off as possible candidates of what I needed, it was to see if there was a Flyer with the two poles on its roof among them heading up.  From that vantage point, if you leaned out or stepped into the first lane you could see a trolleybus coming anywhere between getting ready to turn off Duplex on to Eglinton down at the station to right in front of you at the corner so you could see it well before the wires would start shaking and making noise.

If there was a trolleybus coming, I'd walk up around the corner to the stop in front of Don's Cleaners/Surelocks/Taylor's Stamp and Coin with transfer ready and continue on my way.  If there was a Flyer heading down and I had some spare change on me, I'd cross to the NW corner and get a snack at the Mac's then head back to the stop and wait for the Flyer to finish its trip down to Eglinton station, turn around, then had back up.  Yeah I know, you weren't supposed to do that according to the strict interpretation of the transfer rules...  If it was a situation like this picture shows where there was nothing in sight, all bets were off.  Either there was a trolley bus out of sight in the bus bay in the station and the wait wasn't going to be too bad or there was no Nortown coach on the line between here and the station in either direction and it'd be a total crapshoot for the waiting time.  How to know what to do?  Kill time and wait?  Start hoofing it?

That view isn't fishbowl nostalgia.  That view is nostalgia of waiting on that corner for a Flyer that ran on those wires at the top of that picture.  I'm still amazed that there is a picture for us to look at though.  The fact that someone stood on the northeast corner of Eglinton and Avenue Rd. and took that shot in the mid-late 1980s looking towards Yonge St. and that it's wound its way online means that halfway through 2021, all of you can see exactly the same thing that I did back then when I used to stand in the same place to see if a trolleybus was coming soon on the way home.

Since this seems to be about the most appropriate spot, the steel poles I(and, to be fair, old wooden ones) were being pulled out of the ground on Keele around Humberside yesterday around lunchtime.

I think it's interesting that steel poles still hang out on Hallam, where the Harbord streetcars last passed in 1947. I am not sure what use the tracks had later, or when they were removed.

Whenever I go in the city nowadays, I can’t help but feel slightly odd with the 3100+ buses running on Kennedy and other former Eglinton routes since my brain is hardwired hearing the sounds of the 7400-7881 series buses and to an extent, the New Looks and Classic that preceded them. I mean don’t get me wrong, the 3100s seats have waaaay better back support but I feel kinda bummed not seeing the Detroit VIIs running.

Anyone have clips of the H6 trains on Line 1?

I remember seeing a clip of an H6 travelling between Finch and Sheppard. I cant find it though!

I was thinking the same thing. I remember seeing that video too, it was #5815.

Someone please find it. I'm sure it's still there. Among the thousands of YouTube videos. Lol

The motor screaminggggg between NYC and Sheppard was amazing

Agreed, I especially love the screaming of the H5 motors on that stretch of the line, but it was certainly interesting to see how the H6 motors sound in comparison. Unfortunately that video seems to have been taken down (or privated), it was nowhere to be found last time I checked. Hopefully the author will eventually repost it (there have been cases of youtubers taking down videos & even their accounts, only to later create a new account & reupload their videos).

But before the H6 order arrived we had:

No announcements. No door chimes. No air conditioning.  No BS.  100% fun.

Unpopular opinion, I know: I like the 5s and 6s way more, for the reason @York Transit and I mentioned above.
