Milwaukee County Bus Accident

Happened at 12th & Wisconsin in the Marquette University area.

Go to www.wisn.com for further details or engine search "Milwaukee County Bus Accident".

A YouTube Video from WTMJ Ch. 4

The Milwaukee Fire Department had their hands full dealing with a 4-alarm church fire a few blocks away and this accident on top of it. To make matters worse, the Milwaukee Police Department were very busy helping and directing traffic to detour around this accident and the church fire. Downtown Milwaukee is a total mess with streetcar project with some roads closed and along with other construction projects. I give the Milwaukee Fire & Police Departments credit for their services.

How in the ACTUAL FUCK..... How do you GTA V a bus like that with passengers on board? Was the driver intoxicated? Distracted? Had a motive? Screw the bus, I am grateful no one was hurt on that bus.

MCTS is continuing to investigate the cause of an accident.

May 16, 2018

MCTS is continuing to investigate the cause of an accident on May 15th near 12th and Wisconsin Avenue.

The Route 12 bus was heading southbound on 12th Street and accelerated as it turned left (eastbound) onto Wisconsin Avenue. The bus drove onto the sidewalk and hit a tree before hitting a building on the Marquette University campus.

Five passengers were on the bus at the time of the crash. The driver and three passengers reported not life threating injuries.

MCTS is working with investigators and also doing an internal investigation into the cause. So far we know:

*Bus Equipment

The bus had been on the road for 12 hours before the crash and drivers who drove it had not reported any issuesThe bus went through its annual Wisconsin Department of Transportation inspection in February. The bus had its 6,500 mile inspection on May 4th (MCTS buses are inspected every 6,500 miles) Neither of the recent inspections found any problems with the bus

*Bus Operator

The bus operator is a 59-year-old man. He has been driving with MCTS for 12 years. As is standard procedure with any accident, the driver goes through a medical test to rule out any medical issues.

Update on Investigation into Accident at 12th and Wisconsin

July 27, 2018

Milwaukee, WI – The investigation into a May 15th bus accident at 12th and Wisconsin has wrapped up. The investigation shows that Calvert Campbell, the bus driver, failed to apply the brake and instead accidently accelerated through the intersection and into a Marquette University building. Five passengers were on the bus at the time of the accident. Campbell and three passengers reported injuries that were not life threatening.

MCTS and an independent engineer performed an extensive review of the bus. They looked at bus brakes, the engine and service records and found everything was working properly. Jeff Peterson, the independent engineer from Skogen Engineering Group, found:

“No mechanical defects were found during our inspection of the bus that pre-existed the accident.”

Further evidence of the cause was discovered in surveillance video released by Marquette University. The video shows the bus drive through the intersection and into the building without the rear brake lights ever illuminating.

Prior to this accident, Campbell, 59, drove for 12 years without any accidents. Campbell is being taken off the road for at least six months. During that time, he will be part of the team that cleans the buses at night and fills them up with fuel. He will not drive any routes or any buses in service. At the end of six months, he will be reevaluated.
