MarkyMark
Hi I got offered bus at Birchmount division which is the furthest division from me. I currently work for Mississauga transit and it’s closer. Just wondering if I turn them down for that reason will I be blacklisted from ever joining in the future or would I just have to wait 2 years?
Ed T.
I don't think it's possible for anyone not in the bowels of TTC HR to tell you. Regardless of whatever the official posted policy might say, you have to ask yourself, "if they remember me, what will they think?" Of course it's possible that no one will remember you or look you up. Anyway, why would you expect the location to be better if you slip through the gantlet next time? leylandvictory2
You can request a transfer after 10 months. However your rrquest may not be granted immediately
TransferCutter
And if you reapply and get accepted, who's to say you won't be placed again out in the east end. You should be deciding who you want to work for. Miway or TTC
Magoo
You're in a seniority-based business. Unless you are very young with no kids/wife or family. In general, it's hard to move from one agency to another. Minus the private operators all the public transit providers pretty much have similar pay and benefits. inspectorgadget
Just know the work you're going to be getting for those first 10 months in probably night shift or on spare board. If you're looking for day work you will probably be looking at spare board with Tues weds off and 4 to 5 hour splits. It's a tough little bit. I know lots of guys trying to leave ttc for miway and if you already have seniority built there you may as well stay unless you're willing to sacrifice your time. Like someone else replied, if you have a family, you won't be seeing them for a while especially if you live far unless you're willing to commit to nights. If you're single, nothing to worry about, do your time.
Betablocker
Being an operator for TTC is all seniority based. You can take the most incompetent git with all their issues as long as their badge # is more senior than yours they will get what they want ahead of you. When you first start out you are on probation for 10 months so you can't transfer anywhere. After 10 months you can use what's called "compassionate transfer" to move to another division within your mode but *not* a different mode. You can only use that option once in your entire career and even then the requirements are pretty strict. So once you are assigned to a division you are stuck there for 2 years. Once you're eligible to transfer after 2 years you go on the bottom of the transfer seniority list. Transfers are based purely on seniority so you have to wait until there's space in the division you want to move to and it has to be your turn. When I was working as an operator I believe there were about 100 people on the list waiting for a transfer so you have a long way to go depending on where you want to get transferred to. You can transfer within modes now after a year. As well I know many who have gone the compassionate route in under 10 months but it should be noted one won't given just because a certain division is closer to home for you.
