2018 Transit Fanning goals

Recommended Posts

Ride Ion in Kitchener and the Confederation line in Ottawa, keep up with riding the new streetcars as they enter service, and get back to either Ireland or San Francisco in September.

I hope to grab a cab photo of one of Bratislava's Tatra T6A5 trams. Whether I'll have to charter one or if they'll have one at their annual doors open event next September remains to be seen.

Beyond that, I don't really have any 'goals'. I guess to have fun and take photos of as much stuff as possible, because you never know which of your photos could be of an obscenely rare sighting five years down the road. ^_^

At least photograph anything related to SMART's new Fast service.

My plan for 2018 is just to ride as many hybrids as possible, because they're going away as soon as LRT opens in Ottawa.

As much I liked the older buses, the hybrids aren't actually that bad.

I'd think you should try get on as many STO classics as possible! STO will take these guys out in less than 3 months whereas OC won't retire the Hybrids and some D40i's until at least June. I only suggest this because of your name, lol.

Riding, photographing and recording the MiWay 2008 D60LFRs before they all retire this year. I've only gotten around 2-4 out of 35 so far, so I gotta get moving!

My goal is to ride as many STO classics as possible before the 28 new NovaBus buses come in. Already rode on 9108 in early December, hope to get the other remaining classics!

Or just in general try to get into Eglinton to see decommissioned OG's.

Catch the newest buses running at LYNX, HART and Citrus Connection, more Amtrak (Silver Service), SunRail trains and the TECO Line Streetcar while on our Disney family trip this summer and finally get my arse down to Rutland Vt and go back to West Lebanon or Hanover, NH to get more Advance Transit buses and Dartmouth Coach and og see the new Downtown TC in Burlington, VT.

Frankly i just want to fan stuff I've never seen before. Very general but with agencies gunning for new buses in 2017-2019, lots of very cool things are retiring ofc so I went with an open ended approach to picking out the coolest things I rarely see and going out to find them. This is what I've done so far and then what i plan to do...:

Done:

MCI and Nova Classics (TC40-102A and -102N, STO)

New Flyer D40i (OC Transpo)

New Flyer D60LF (OC Transpo, Not very rare nor cool but I never saw one before so these were more of a coverage thing)

Neoplan AN440LF, AN440LF ETB, AN460LF DMA (MBTA, I've seen them before but I wanted more units and better photos)

(1995) Nova RTS-06 (MBTA-This was kind of inadvertent and an accident esp. since they're all retired but it was chartered that day and was trackable when NIS so I grabbed photos... Granted I did my fanning of the 1994 TMC/1995 Novas by that point)

Orion VI (Cornwall Transit)

What I have plans to do:

Orion VII diesels (Norwalk CT next week, more photos of NYMTA's 3563)

Alternative fuel buses (Santa Monica BBB L40LF, GTrans LBT and Montebello GE40LF, GTrans and Montebello GE40LFR, Montebello GE35LFR, LBT GE40LFA, OCTA or Anaheim NABI 40-LFW LNG)

Diesel fuel buses in SoCal (LBT D40LF, Montebello Gillig LF)

Electric buses (Already did NYMTA Proterras and XE40, will do LBT and AVTA BYDs)

As many Orion Vs as possible (GGT, Santa Monica MTD, Sonoma County Transit)

Neoplan AN440 (Muni)

NABI 45C-LFW CNG (LACMTA)

NABI 40-LFW (Gen-1) (Cleveland RTA, maybe PACE)

Skoda TTs (Muni, maybe Dayton RTA)

Van Hool A330FC (AC Transit)

Misc others that have popped up that I'm not specifically traveling for but I will still fan regardless... (AVTA '92 phantom, LACMTA '00 Orion VI, AVTA 40C-LFW, LACMTA '00-'02 C40LF, LACMTA NABI 40-LFW CNG, Cleveland RTA D/DE60LFA, Indygo D40/60LF, maybe CTA D/DE60LF, maybe Marin Transit DE35/LF and D60LF, Muni XT40/60, AC Transit any Van Hools)

I would say that the regular D60LF is actually better than the D60LFR. I simply love the older design. What you want to be looking for are the 2009 D60LFs. I have only seen one five times.

I have seen the 2008 D60LFs a lot, though. In fact, I've seen lots for the past month.

One of my goals for late this year, early next year is try to track down one of our new NovaBus units and see how they are. They're also getting our new livery.
