The OCTA and its articles are in a serious need for updates because the fleet info is incomplete particularly because there are shuttle buses used for OCTA ACCESS Service that are not in the fleet. I have lived in Orange County, California for almost my entire life and this is the bus system where I had my first bus rides in 2015! The following details that must be added to the OCTA and its articles are:

The OCTA was established in 1991 from the Orange County Transit District

OCTA units 8501-8599 are 2014-2015 Glaval Buses built on a Ford F-450 Chassis

OCTA units 8601-8700 series are 2017 StarCraft buses built on a Ford F-450 chassis

OCTA routes 20, 51, 145, 187, 188, 191, 193, 410, 411, 430, 464, 490, 757, and 758 are discontinued

Add OCTA routes 53X, 57X, 64X, 150, Bravo 543, and Bravo 560

OCTA units 8301-8364 were 1999 ElDorado National Aerotech buses built on a Ford F450 chassis. These buses were retired in 2008.

OCTA units 6301-6312, 6400s, 6500s, 6600s, 6700s, and 6800s have been retired.

OCTA units 6341-6345

OCTA units 5122, 5675, and 7575 have Near Zero ISL-G engines

All 2007 New Flyer C40LFRs (5502-5599, 5601-5674, 7501-7528) have Cummins Westport ISL-G engines

5501: September 2006

5502: March 2007

5505-5508: April 2007

5510-5530, 5540, 7529: May 2007

5536-5539, 5541-5542: June 2007

Units 2209, 2214-2215, 2217-2218, 2222, 2228, 2232-2233, 2237, 2243, 2248, 2254-2255, 2263, 2270, 2278, 2280-2281, 2287-2288, 2296, 2311, 2313, 2317, 2324, 2340-2341, 2345, 2349, and 2357 are active. All other 2200s and 2300s are retired.

1100s series Flxible New Looks have Detroit Diesel Allison V730 transmissions

OCTA units 6351-6364 have Hanover Monochrome LED signs

New Flyer D40LF units 5302, 5306, 5331, 5335, 5342, 5353-5354, 5362, 5376, 5387-5388, 5401, 5403, 5406, 5408-5412, and 5416 are presumed to be active.

1987 OCTD SuperBuses: 7001-7002 (White Motor Company WX42 trucks), 7501-7502 (Capre SuperBus trailers)

1993 OCTA SuperBuses: 7101-7110 (WhiteGMC WX42 trucks), 7601-7610 (SuperBus Trailers)

1997 ElDorado National Aerotech buses built on Ford Econoline chassis: units 8101-8191

1995 New Flyer D40LF units 5208 and 5241 tested two separate experimental OCTA paint schemes in 1999. 5208 had the two-stripe orange and blue 'Millennium Look' livery while 5241 had a mostly blue and white OCTA livery.

OCTA unit 6031 was a 2008 ElDorado National E-Z Rider II BRT originally intended to replace the 1997-1998 E-Z Riders, but it was rejected. This bus supposedly had a Cummins Westport ISL G with an Allison Transmission B300R and Transit Sales International is presumed to have this bus on their website.

OCTA unit 7315 was involved in a rear-end accident on July 5th, 2007

OCTA unit 7410 was involved in a accident on August 9th, 2009

OCTA unit 2220 rear-ended a sedan on May 9th, 2012

OCTA unit 2307 was involved in a front end accident on October 26th, 2015. This bus was repaired and returned to service until its retirement in 2017.

OCTA unit 2308 was involved in a rear-end accident on November 7th, 2016 shortly before retirement. A motorcyclist was killed in the accident when the bus driver slowed down due to traffic congestion.

OCTA unit 8363 was destroyed in an accident on October 21st, 2003.

OCTA units 7530 and 7592 have Near Zero ISL-G engines

OCTA units 8901-8968 were 2002 ElDorado National Aerotech diesel buses on a Ford F-450 chassis. These buses had TwinVision Amber LED signs.

OCTA unit 5406 tested an experimental 2-stripe orange and blue 'Millennium Look' paint scheme variant in 2003. This experimental paint scheme is different from 5241 as it has no gray paint skirt on the bottom sides of the bus, and a large 2-tone OCTA logo on the sides and front end of that bus.

OCTA unit 5578 tested an experimental OC Bus blue and orange paint scheme in 2015-2016

OCTA unit 5597 tested an experimental OC Bus blue and white paint scheme in 2015-2016, which became the finalized paint scheme for OC Bus units 5701-5858, 7621-7636, 5506, 5515, 5522, 5539, and some other New Flyer C40LFRs. 

Units 2296, 2311, 2313, 2317, 2324, 2340-2341, 2345, 2349, and 2357 were originally operated by First Transit while units 2297-2299, and the other 2300s were still at First Transit at the time of their retirement.

Units 5129-5150, 5513, 5530-5535, 5543-5564, 5571-5599, 5601-5678, and 7501-7573 are currently operated by First Transit at the Anaheim and Sand Canyon bases

Metro leased 14 OCTA GMC T8H-203 diesel buses in 1998 due to a shortage of buses in their fleet during the CNG crisis in the mid to late 1990s. Before that, 3004, 3012, and some other units were leased to Metro in 1996 with their OCTA fleet numbers and paint schemes retained, with the Metro logo placed over the OCTA 'highway' logo. These buses were then retired in April to May 2001. The following buses repainted in the 'yellow jacket' Metro Bus paint scheme include:

OCTA unit 5701 now has 35 seats instead of 37. This bus had its original seating layout changed to match the other 5700s-5800s while it transferred from Santa Ana (base 1) to Garden Grove (base 4).

OCTA unit 5415 is owned by a private owner (by the same guy who bought OCTA unit 2304)

OCTA unit 7415 was bought by Las Vegas Beyond and converted to a party bus.

OCTA unit 7571 was involved in an accident in 2009

Does 3176 exist? A1371 is Milwaukee's 3225. Everywhere it only says 3001-3175 for the fleet numbers and serials A1196-A1370.

The OCTA bus list in one of the links didn't show 3176, but the CPTDB Wiki article listed 3176 just before the content changes.

It seems as OCTA has retired units 2218 and 2287 since I found them at General Auction Company's Website

Checking the website, GAC has OCTA NABI Units 2218, 2246, 2287, and 2318.

I also noticed that 2246 was retired almost 2 years ago (due to an accident) yet is being auctioned off at the upcoming February 10th auction

There are no pictures yet though the VIN's can be found in the description of the lots

New Flyer posted a tweet which includes a news report of OCTA ordering 6 more Xcelsior units. Apparently, these units are going to be used to expand the Bravo! Bus fleet and were options. 

If fleet numbering continues from 5858, then these units will be 5859-5864 and possibly be assigned to Garden Grove(?). The reason I say this is because of the possible unassigned parking spaces in the yard which were formally assigned to the NABI's, though these are definitely to be with Santa Ana with the rest of the 58XX and Bravo! units.

The next set of changes that are to be put into OCTA wiki articles are:

OCTA routes 212, 216, and 454 are discontinued

OC Bus unit 1101 has 37 American Seating 6466 seats

OC Bus Mobile Validators are found on all currently operating buses except the 2200s and 2300s

OCTA route 177 has no Sunday service

Units 2311, 2313, 2317, 2327, 2340-2341, 2349, and 2357 are retired

Units 5126, 7529-7530, 7576, 7585, and 7592 have Near Zero ISL-G engines. These buses with repowered engines have additional cooling vents on the rear that are intended to be used as an after-treatment system for the new engine as shown in the picture below.

I have found 2 videos showing Ex-OCTA 2001 D60LF's operating for Santa Cruz Metro. According to the description, A total of 3 2001 D60LF's (Formally OCTA) are being leased for Santa Cruz for a 6 month pilot program up to June. Its possible that these were being leased from Transit Sales International due to the buses being in a plain white livery, however, I could be wrong. The following units are with Santa Cruz as of right now and have the fleet numbers 2101-2103.

  • OCTA unit 7420 is now Santa Cruz Metro unit 2101
  • OCTA unit 74?? is now Santa Cruz Mero unit 2102
  • OCTA unit 7417 is now Santa Cruz Metro unit 2103

Add units 2215 and 2217 to this list as these have been found at GAC's website. units 2311, 2313, and 2317 are also listed on the site. All units are scheduled to be auctioned off on March 10th and leaves OCTA to having 19 NABI 40-LFW Buses in the remaining fleet. All are based at the Garden Grove Yard.

 

Trying to ride them as much as I can before I am forced to ride XN40's for now on....

Bumping this thread with some updates

  • Units 2340-2341, 2345, and 2357 have been auctioned off today. These are (I believe) the last 2300's to be auctioned off.
  • Units 7589-7592 are (temporarily?) not being used by the Bravo! Service. I have found 7589 on a deadhead to the 60 a few days ago, 7591 on Route 1, and 7592 on the 60 (7592 is currently a norm on the 60 on weekdays and has not yet been spotted on other routes). 7589-7592 are all in full body ad wraps.

So yesterday morning when I rode the bus, I saw this below my feet. They've "extended" the yellow line and no ones allowed to stand on it (I was a rebel and stood there anyway). This photo was taken onboard 7587, a 2008 C40LFR. I haven't seen this new feature on the other C40LFR's, XN40's or XN60's though it is likely that they'll receive this update in the near future. 7587 is likely the first unit to receive this and as mentioned before, could be on the rest of the active OCTA Fleet *Excluding the NABI's* (7587 has also since then been repowered to a Cummins Westport ISL-G NZ)

Here are some updates regarding OCTA/OCBus.

  • 6338 was stolen by a 20 year old on May 17th 2018 (4 days ago when I typed this) (Source: Multiple News reports, driver friend)
  • Recently retired NABI Buses who's fates are unknown: 2214, 2222, 2232, 2248, 2296, 2324, 2349. <----These could be auctioned off by General Auction Company on its next auction on June 9th 2018
  • I recommend a page being created for C40LFR buses 5502-5599, 5601-5674 and 7501-7529
  • 5321, 5328, 5390, 5323 & 5368 to Bronco Transit sometime in 2009-2010 (Source: CPTDB Wiki)
  • 2275 was involved in an accident, however, instead of repairing it, OCTA used the bus for spares and it was auctioned off in 2008, along with 2206 and 2133, the other NABI's known to have been retired early due to accidents/incidents. (Source: Flickr Photo)

I just put up some of the VINs of OCTA's 2007 New Flyer C40LFRs, among them being in the 5502-5599, 5601-5674, and 7501-7528 series. The wiki page for these units still have not been created yet and there are many other VINs that are awaiting to be put up on the wiki.

Yesterday I just saw 5866 operating on Bravo 560 and those units do not have a wiki page created yet also. The license plates for these 2018 New Flyer XN40 units are:

Another Bump for the OCTA wiki page. These are in regards to the remaining OCTA NABI's and their auction dates. I have also put in auction dates for other buses, such as some of the D60LFs as well as some error corrections.

  • Units 2209, 2222, 2232-2233, 2237, 2243, 2254, and 2324 were auctioned off at General Auction Company on August 11, 2018. (One unit *2243* was defaulted and as a result, was not auctioned off on this date and as a result, it was put up for auction again for the September 8th 2018 auction)
  • Unit 2243, 2248, 2255, 2263, 2270, 2280-2281, 2288, 2296, and 2349 were auctioned off at General Auction Company on September 8, 2018. (One unit, *2243* was defaulted from the previous auction and was auctioned off again on this date).
  • Units 7409, 7411, 7413, 7416, 7417, 7418, 7419, and 7420 were auctioned at General Auction Company on April 8, 2017. (7411 and 7417 were put up for auction on March 11, 2017, however, they most likely were defaulted and were re-auctioned at the April 8th auction).
  • 2287 was not auctioned off on March 10, 2018. It was auctioned off at the previous auction on February 10, 2018. 
  • 2313 was auctioned off at the March 10, 2018 auction, but not listed on the wiki page. 
  • 2218, 2246, 2278, 2287, and 2318 were auctioned off on February 10, 2018. 
  • 2246 was involved in an accident on March 27, 2016 after slamming into a building. It was auctioned off, un-repaired,  2 years later on February 10, 2018.

Some updates for the OCTA wiki page

  • All buses are currently receiving new bike racks which can hold 3 bikes instead of 2. The newer XN40's (5861-5866), were delivered with these newer bike racks 
  • As of right now, the 58xx series buses have a rear door announcement that is given each time the door is opened or closed. This video taken from 5840 shows this at work. *Note that the voice is similar to the voice announcer present on LACMTA buses* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XkLgtP9mbQ
  • There still needs to be a page (or pages), for the 2007 C40LFRs (5502-5599, 5601-5674, 7501-7528). I assume the thread author has the VIN's of most of these buses.
  • All repowers for the C40LFR's are estimated to be completed as of December 2018.
  • 7575-7576 are no longer used for the Bravo! service, as they now have full body ad-wraps and are now found on other fixed routes. I am not sure if 7577-7579 are getting the same treatment since none of the buses have been tracked.
  • A sighting made on November 8th 2018 shows only two NABI's still remain at the Garden Grove bus yard. These buses are 2214 and 2228.

A short update for the OCTA wiki-page

  • There will be a new route, the Bravo! 529. It will leave from the Goldenwest Transportation Center and go up to the Buena Park Station. This route will run on weekdays only, and is most likely going to replace the 29A. It is expected that this route commences with the next service change which will take place on February 9 2019.
  • 7577 is no longer used for the Bravo! service.

7575-7576 are no longer used for the Bravo! service, as they now have full body ad-wraps and are now found on other fixed routes. I am not sure if 7577-7579 are getting the same treatment since none of the buses have been tracked.

Unis 7589-7592 and 7575-7577 have returned to use as buses for the Bravo! service as a result of the demand for buses for Bravo buses getting higher.
This morning I saw 7589 with its wrap removed and with its Bravo livery still present

Units 7301-730273057306-73087311-73127317, and 7319 were all auctioned off on March 15th 2014.

Unit 5865 was built in June 2018.

Unit 5863 was built in April 2018.

Unit 7631 was involved in a minor accident on January 24th 2019

Some of the 2007 C40LFR's have 3 slot bike racks. Units I personally spotted with them include 5517-5518, 5548, and 5527. There may be more C40LFR's with the new rack

Updates:

- Units 2214 and 2228 were auctioned off on May 4 2018; they were the last units on OCTA property.

- Driver barriers will be installed on all buses starting from May 2019. Unit 5503 and an unknown XN40 are the only buses currently with the barrier. 

- Unit 5415 is incorrectly stated as being used as a Disneyland Hotel Shuttle. It is currently still privately owned by Kevin Sanchez.

- Units 5321, 5328, 5390, 5323 & 5368 to Bronco Transit as units 25-29 sometime in 2009-2010.

- Units 2321, 2323, 2325, 2327, 2337, 2342, 2366-2367 leased to Anaheim Resort Transportation; joining units 2201-2203, 2205, 2207 as well as a bunch of other 21 hundreds
