I will do my best. My trip isn’t till February so PM then so I don’t forget.

Are there any other special request? Questions? Or thing that should be added to the wiki?

Either an audio recording or a video footage of the 2007 Axess units is all I ask. Everything else is up to you.

Also, it seems that Maui Bus purchased its first battery-electric bus some moments ago. Unfortunately, the manufacturer is BYD and the video showcasing it is complemented with typical corporate music. Not looking too good.

They didn’t purchase it, it’s only a trial until December. I added it to the BYD wiki but totally forgot to add it to the Maui Bus page.

The small paint job at the front fooled me a little bit. My bad.

I have been informed that all 2007 buses have been retired except 2701 and 2702.

Could you add that to the wiki please?

Accoding to an employee the BYD demo has been extended to a unknown date. I may be able to catch it during my garage visit.

Yesterday I visited their garage and learned many new things.
1. Their Ford cutaways have been plagued with many problems and have had to have their engines replaced. When I went there MB503 was getting its engine replaced

2. 2701, 2705 and 2706 were all re-wrapped about a year ago, before 2703-2706 were retired due to engine issues and such

3. They hand wash the inside and outside all of their buses after they have been out in the road.

4. They have a spare ratio of about 9 buses but the deputy director who gave me the tour said he is considering buying some 30’ from Hertz, just in case something happens

5. In early March they will break ground on a new transit exchange at Queen ka’ahumanu Center

6. In May if this year they will receive the first of their 4 new Eldorado Access buses which he said will most likely not replace the remaining access buses.

I have been informed that starting with their 4 new buses (2001-2004) coming (delivery will start in about a month), they will be fitted with driver barriers. Once these arrive, all of the current buses in their fleet will be retrofitted with a driver barrier.

UPDATE:

The new buses are currently on a barge heading to Maui. MB401 is currently being fitted with a driver barrier. A Para transit bus (MB120) is being outfitted with WiFi as part of a community demo.

Even though no one ever reads this thread I felt I should share another update.

2001-2004 have all entered service as of earlier this month and are commonly seen on some of the islander routes (10, 20).  That being said, 1901-1902 no longer only operate on the 20 and have now operate on the 28. 1902 is down for warranty so 2702 is replacing it. I don't know what's wrong but 1901-1902 have been in for warranty issues quite a bit.

2701 is not retired yet and is just getting some repairs done but 2702 is still running on the 28 and, believe it or not, the only reason its still running is because they are trying to get it to hit 1 million miles. Its currently in the 900s. They are trying to keep 2701-2702 as long as possible because they provide extra capacity on routes which would usually use 35 footers.
