D30LF RETIREMENT

This is 932 with missing bumpers, which I just saw today while biking. I'd expect Winnipeg to at least keep the 2001 buses going for awhile on routes like 1, 2, 3, 95, 99, and probably others. There's at least one or two repainted 2001 D30LF's. On the other hand though, recently I've seen 40 foot buses on 95 more often, and even 1 and 2.

How come Winnipeg ordered such short buses in the first place? Probably to support NFI's local manufacturing efforts.

I believe it was to service routes that didn't have enough passengers for 40-foot buses such as 82-99. Some of those routes now have 40-foot buses (2, 10, 84-87, 89) on weekdays while others (1, 51, 53, 56 and DART) still have the short buses. I think it depends on ridership.

The 95 usually has the 30-foot buses especially on weekdays, but they have the 40-foot buses more often on the weekends for some reason. They're usually pretty empty, especially on the weekends, when for some reason it only goes to Pan Am Pool. The 95 is not the most ridden route, hence why it uses the 30-foot buses, though I use it because it's a half block away from my house. It's used a fair amount by Churchill High School students though, which is a block away. Outside of that, when and where I ride the 95, it's usually half empty with the 30-foot buses.

Compared to the 84-87 routes, I don't think the 95 services a lot of retail or schools. Those first four routes tend have 40-foot buses now especially during rush hour. I saw a D40LFR doing the 84/86 this afternoon at Fort Rouge Station and have seen 40-footers on the 85 and 87.

I wonder what the the plan Is to use for darts? Cause they can't use 40-footers on them. The only ones with 30-footers are 1-2-3 12HSC 53/56 82 83-1 1 of the 3 84/86 88 95 98 101 102 109 110

When it was the 97 Kenaston bus in the 1980s, I used to catch it at 8:10 AM and transfer at Grant @ Kenaston for the Stafford School Bus.

Back then we didn't have this route operate at all on the weekends, and it was not until the late-1980s that it even went west of Kenaston / Taylor intersection into the newer parts of Tuxedo.

The current route 95 Morley is waaay too long... Should be broken up as separate pieces like beore ... 95 Morley and...97 is now taken up with a route in the N. End. Get rid of 68 Crescnt then and put some service back on the 20 Academy-Watt ... Use 68 as the new "Kenaston/Taylor" feeder.

Back in the early 1980s WT had bought a few 30' and 35' Orion I buses from Ont. The  budgeted $ used to purchase these came from the failed Sherbrook-McGregpr Overpass project (aka the Northern Fwy.).

Prior to that, WT purchased in the early 1970s (?) some 35 ft. GMC suburban feeders.

In the 1960s and 70s, before route numbers, Morley usually used 35-foot buses, along with other routes such as William and McPhillips.

I support having longer routes in general. I think, for my uses, the 95 is mostly fine, except when it only goes from Riverview to Pan Am Pool. I don't recall ever seeing a 30-foot bus on the 84/86. I'm pretty sure that's a 40-foot route.

It gets 30 footers to one the 3 runs get a 30 foot bus

The Jubilee bus!

Yeah, my "Baba" (b. Jan. 1900 d. Nov. 1973) lived on Manitoba Ave. near Selkirk Ave. CPR tracks to cross. But if I remember correctly she rode the McGregor bus to downtown and transferred the Corydon to Corydon @ Harrow close to where we lived at the time. What a long ride that would have been.

If she had live say 10 more years she probably could have rode the 33 Maples Express and then switched to the 18 Corydon. But she would have been 83/84 yo. by then. Or did the 33 Maples Express used to be called "(Red) Express | Maples" in around 1980?

I miss her so much.
