STO Classic Retirement Watch

Recommended Posts

I don't get it? Why retire buses. If there's an issue with over crowding on STO buses during rush hour why retire the classics. With these new 27 Nova Hybrids coming, I would keep the classic for rush hour service.

If the STO wants more residents to take public transit then, they got to dtarty offering more service, and by that they caan't retire  buses. Either you keep older buses for more service or you buy more buses, IE retire 27 buses, you buy 27 buses to replace those 27 retired plus you buy more as expansion, other wise you won't improve your service,

You need more staff to run more buses, and it’s not just one driver for one bus, you need more garage space to run more buses, all that costs more money.

Yeah, and OC /city spent more on OC to provide more service, hired more staff. As bus space they just got a second garage and just like OC can store buses outside. Gatneau city councol  needs to step up and spend more. If that means raising taxes to pay for, you raise taxes just like Ottawa does to pay for services.

If only it was that simple.....🙄🙄

Hey, Come on look that at these buses they are rusting away. They are over 20 years old and they have had a good long life. I hope the STO preserves a least one like when STM preserved 15-140 (The last classic ever built for the STM) and donated it to the FTCHQ.

Anyway, All good things must come to an end and when the last one does it's final run I'm sure they'll have nice passengers on board getting the ride of their lives one last time and when the ride is over they will do a long speech about the Classics and how they contributed over the years of being the best buses of the STO.

Think about it! Buses are people they live good long lives and are never forgotten by transit enthusiasts like us. They will always be in our hearts!

I've noticed that there were no more unspotted STO Classics being seen active. Let's hope the remaining 23 remain active, especially the original STO ones.

I have edited my list to put the unspotted, unknown, and retired ones on the same list. If we spot one from that list, I'm going to put it back in the active list. Also, if you do spot a Classic already on the list, it's better to post it so we can keep track of which are still active, and which ones retired.

There's only 13 original STO Classics left that have been spotted. These are the last known 23 buses to be in service.

91xx: Three active (9108, 9114, 9117)

92xx: Two active (9204, 9216)

94xx: Five active (9401, 9403, 9411, 9419, 9421)

95xx: Three active (9512, 9516, 9519)

Ex-Calgary: All still active (9131, 9132, 9133, 9134, 9135, 9136, 9137, 9138, 9224, 9225)

I've seen 9117 and 9216 plus a bunch of ex-Calgarys within the past week or so.

I spotted #9131, #9132, #9137 & #9403 today.

So far that's 4 units that have survived into 2018!

Good work! How many genuine STO classics come with their old livery? haven't seen one in it's iconic livery, yet...

The ones in the old livery are 9117, 9204, 9216, 9401, 9403, 9411, 9419, 9421, and 9516.

*9117 and 9216 have white fronts, but the body is still in the original livery.

Greetings once again, I plan to go classic riding tomorrow with someone who hasn't been on a classic in almost 10 years. However I was giving facts/differences between the genuine STO and Ex-Calgary and I was puzzled at one fact...

Based off your research/findings, what classics have a Balios (Orange) destination sign instead of the MegaMAX3000 (Green) destination sign? 9131 was the only one I found with a Balios destination sign.

The only other ex-Calgary Classic with a Balios sign is 9134.

I saw it today too. The thing is surface rust doesn't necessarily translate into a bus in terrible condition overall (structural/engine, etc.). I remember a few OC fishbowls had window rust for years, but outlasted many other GMs. 7607 and 7614 spring to mind and 7403...but those are fading memories now, so I may be wrong on the fleet numbers. 8102 had a lot of rust on it in 2001 before it would have been refurbed for its final years of service: 8102.jpg

I don't think you'll ever seem the same type of rust on today's buses when they grow elderly...if they ever make it to that age.

I also saw 9419 today too.

Rode / spotted 9108 and 9512

Spotted 9419, 9421, 9519 while on board 9512

Spotted: 9421 again near Les Promenade Station.

Spotted another classic at Taché station but the back window was missing fleet number (it was an ex-calgary since it was all white and had no A/C unit and a back window instead of a solid rear that you'd find on the genuine STO 91XX - 92XX Classics)

Spotted another ex-Calgary while on board 0203 on route 300 from Les Promenade station on the opposite direction ( didn't catch Fleet number because it was unexpected )

Good news classic fans, all ex-Calgary (9131 - 9138, 9224 - 9225) have been spotted and have made it into 2018!

Though I'm worried 9114, 92169401, 9411, 9516 may have been retired since I have spent almost 20 hours total spotting for them and have came out empty handed...

Edit; 9216 was spotted on Friday, February 2nd, 2018 and has since been put on the ACTIVE list.
