horseman
Haven't seen it mentioned here yet, so thought I'd do so. Jarrett Walker, known in public transit circles for his "Human Transit" book and website (http://humantransit.org) will be coming to Winnipeg to speak in May, as well as some meetings and workshop discussion with City Council and Winnipeg Transit. Given Mr. Walker has some high profile success stories under his belt for overhauling transit systems to do more with the existing resources they have (such as in Houston recently -- that's been a very visible success story) potentially it could be interesting going forward. The public is invited to a talk at the Manitoba Museum by Mr. Walker: WHEN: Thursday May 11, 7-9 PMWHERE: Manitoba Museum Planetarium Auditorium, 190 Rupert Ave There are also two follow up events planned: Local Transit Panel – Richardson College for the Environment Atrium, University of Winnipeg, May 18 at 7 PM Discuss the Bus, a community roundtable – Richardson College for the Environment Atrium, University of Winnipeg, May 27 at 1:30 PM Sponsors include: Amalgamated Transit Union Assiniboine Credit Union The Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce Downtown Winnipeg BIZ West End BIZ — Winnipeg Exchange District Business Improvement Zone The University of Winnipeg
