At the same time, though, have the 1999 D40LFs ever been assigned anywhere other than Surrey, at least for more than a temporary loan?

The higher numbered ones (I want to think 7340 or 7341 up to 7374) were based in Poco for at least five years. I believe that it was the delivery of the C40LFRs in 2006 that displaced them to Surrey. My timing may be a little off, but I am pretty sure that all of the 1999 D40LFs were already in Surrey by the time the D40LFRs were sent there from Burnaby.

What did Surrey have before they got all the D40LFRs? Just Classics and the D40LFs?

Yes (I think some D40HFs too but I think those left before the 340 was split).

I think they also had some of the higher number orions (I used to see them on the 345 when I was in elementary school). STC was in charge of 311 351 352 354 for a bit as far as I recall

Speaking of Orions, during the trolley crisis I was in my car going home and I remembered seeing a 9200 doing a 325.

Before 2007, yes, Surrey had about half of the 7300-series D40LFs, a good portion of the 1990 MCI Classics, and a handful of 1987 GM and 1989 MCI Classics. I remember there were also a couple of 1998 D40LFs, but I think that most of those were either one-offs or temporary loaners. In the summer of 2006, 7258 was definitely the only BC Transit-scheme D40LF running out of STC. (Emphasis on D40LF, because at that stage a good number of Classics in the old scheme were still running out there.)

The story behind the Orions in Surrey was as follows. Before the September 2007 sheet, all the Orions (and the routes they operated on) were based at RTC. Then, starting Labour Day of 2007, the 49 was moved from VTC to RTC. This measure was taken to allow the 49 to be operated with artics. In order to make room for the extra buses at RTC, the 311, 352 and 354 were moved to STC, along with a handful of the Orions. (As I recall, the initial buses transferred were 9217-9219, 9261, and 9263-9276.9257-9260 and 9262 would later follow.)

The fact that the 49 continued to run with 40-footers out of RTC until two years later, when many of RTC's artics were freed up with the cancellation of the 98 B-Line, is irrelevant. In fact, most of the buses that were transferred from VTC to RTC in September of 2007 were... D40s! For many months, D40s were a mainstay on the 49.

STC did have a handful of D40s as well (3232-3243 or somewhere in that range), but not very many, and they tended to only show up on certain routes. They were a common sight on the 318 when that route still existed (the precursor to the modern-day C76) and on the 301 in its second year of operation. In fact, from about early 2005 to mid 2006 it was rare to see anything but a D40 on the 301, even a D40LF! Most of those STC D40s ended up at RTC.

There was a 14000 series running some HTC route along Kingsway today with a P prefix. Not sure if recent transfer or a bus that hasn't had the prefix changed yet.

Must be 14037, which still has its P.

14036 also ran with its P when it ran out of HTC before being moved to PCTC

9619 is on the 22, seems to have been transferred to VTC. Not exactly sure when that happened, hard to confirm with tcomm not showing block history right now

What a waste of resources this is to send someone to make a garage swap! 9670 goes to BTC & return 9619 comes over to VTC same model except different year. Why don't they spent time & resources more wisely by improving routes that need improved service!

Could be they planned to make 9670 a permanent change, but with West Van borrowing a few from VTC, they sent something back to cover for a bit.

On that note, 9683 joins 9671 and 2 in West Van.

Heard word of a few VTC D40LF (7234, 7407) going to RTC this PM.

I also saw a picture of an empty track sheet for PM bookouts on the 401 linegroup (Do note that high numbered blocks on the 401 are designated 49s). Possibility of artics sticking around in RTC for the PM rush as the snow dissipates.
