Today I decided to stop by Terminus Panama to try and get some 218XX pictures. Everything was going fine for the first 30 mins, until a supervisor came to see me. He said I needed to have permission from the RTL to take pictures. I told him I did not, as the buses are publicly funded and are operating for a public transit company. He didn't like my answer and then said I was not allowed to take pictures in the terminal because it is private property.

He said to call the RTL Customer Service. I did that in front of him, and was told by the person on the phone that I was in fact aloud to take pictures, so he left. About 30 minutes later, another supervisor arrived, this one was not as friendly as the first one. She was arrogant and aggressive. She proceeded to say the same things, not aloud to take pictures of the bus, I'm on private property, blah blah blah. She told me I have to leave or she will call the police to have me arrested for trespassing. I was then escorted by an RTM Security Guard to my car, and he followed my car until I left the parking lot.

I will be making a formal complaint in the next couple of days.

That's why I avoid going to Panama, first it's a bitch to park there and I always get the feeling I'm being watched. Went near terminus Longueuil on Friday, stood on Saint-Charles across the street from the terminus, no problems.

So looking forward to going back to Florida this summer, will be able to peacefully fan at LYNX Central Station in Orlando, Lakeland Downtown terminal, Orlando Health/Amtrak station, Marion Transit Center in Tampa, PSTA 34th Street Transfer Center in St. Petersburg and near the TECO Line streetcar car barn in Tampa without being hassled by annoying security guards. :)

I have replied privately to MTL66, but I have seen or heard nothing for why he received this sort of treatment. I guess that he had the misfortune of happening on this particular RTL employee at a bad time.

NEW ROUTES (operating out of Garage Longueuil): 22 and 161

See the website for more details http://www.rtl-longueuil.qc.ca/en-CA/news/press-release/2018/new-lines-added-in-longueil-and-boucherville/

I tried the 16:10 departure (the third of the afternoon) with 2-0232, the driver was one of the highest ranks out of GALO (30+ years of service, and surprisingly before that 3 years with Halifax Transit!). Very quiet route... there are more fingers on both of my hands than riders on this round trip. Clearly the memo hasn't gotten out. Anyway it is obvious that it is senior route as people on Roland-Therrien (where we serve only the express stops at Auteuil, Fernand-Lafontaine, de Gentilly, Curé-Poirier, and King-George) were telling us to go on and preferred to wait for the 410/417! Most but not all stops are served on Jacques-Cartier, interestingly enough. As can be expected, no changes at Stationnement de Mortagne, not even a port a potty. Hopefully this will change by the time the Lafontaine tunnel is closed. People will be screaming for alternatives at that point (the famous REM will not be ready next year... thank God).

In a recent meeting, our union local has assured us that there will be no job losses that will come with the REM. On the contrary, there will be more drivers hired, and more buses purchased - an increase of 5 to 10 % of the fleet (the latter fact was mentioned to be my a supervisor this morning). The big question - where to park all these buses as our garages are bursting at the seams.

Other salient points:

  • Parc Chevrier to be closed entirely, no station to be built there
  • Terminus Panama to be demolished and completely rebuilt. There will be little to no commuter parking. Everyone will have to take the bus to the station it seems!
  • Champlain Bridge reserved bus lane and the transitway along A10 to be closed in a few months

Soo what happened in the end? I'm curious to know because I also witnessed supervisors on "Power trips"' and acting in an arrogant way as if we don't know the rules...

This is the reply I got back from the RTL exactly 1 month later. According to them, because I consider myself a freelance photographer, I am taking photos professionally.

Mr Mc Ardle,

This is in reference to an incident that took place on April 2nd and to the comment form you filled out through our web site.

As of January 1st 2018 management of various metropolitan infrastructures was transferred to the RTL. All authorizations for a variety of different requests must now be made directly to us. We are now working on making all these recent changes on our web site to better inform our clients.

Individuals who wish to either take pictures or make videos on a professional level, must first contact Customer service in order to have the proper authorisations.  Authorisations will only be issued by Customer service. We ask that parties have the said authorisation in hand and able to present it to any RTL personnel, upon request. Since you identify yourself as a freelance photographer, and are by this definition, a professional, you are required to follow these procedures.

In reference to the way you were treated by the RTL Supervisor, we would like to appologize for the way this individual conducted himself.

Please be assured that we will address the matter at hand with all personnel at the Panama terminus as to avoid a similar incident in the future.

RTL territory mayors want a piece of the transportation improvement pie during the pre-election period:

https://www.journaldemontreal.com/2018/08/20/cinq-maires-de-la-rive-sud-veulent-des-engagements

Extension of the yellow line towards Rolland-Therrien is a good choice, but there is still no efficient way to travel between Panama Terminus, Longueuil Métro and the theoretical Rolland-Therrien station sector.

Would efficient bus travel involve:

1) Frequent hub-and-spoke from each rail transit terminus?

2) Point-to-point between popular destinations?

3) An express bus between the above three rail hubs?

4) A Tachereau Tram (how would this even attract people given the sprawling pavement surrounding each commercial establishment)

These South Shore mayors should order an origin-destination study before building something extravagant.

The mayors are posturing to have their dreams come true to whichever political party that is willing to go along with their quote unquote vision. Let's begin by talking facts. There is no density to warrant a further metro extension in Longueuil. The fake BRT (410, 417 EXPRESS Roland-Therrien, aka the first phase of the RRA (réseau rapide d'agglomération) is doing the job fine. In fact, service along the corridor has been supplemented by the addition of route 161 two board periods ago.

No efficient way to travel between Panama and Longueuil? There are four routes between the terminals (6, 13, 15, and 54) all with similar running times. At the worst of times (hourly service), you have on combined average one bus every 15 mins. Normal weekday daytime service, you can double it with 30 min headways on each line and half that combined average to a bus every 7.5 mins. Ostensibly during rush hour the service is even better than that. Having driven all four routes... there may be demand for an express between both hubs but understand that it is the minority of people riding from one end of the route to the other. There are many trip generators between both terminals such as schools, retail, and healthcare facilities. Limited stop may be justified... the RTL's long term planning with the RRA calls for limited stop service in the Taschereau axis. I don't think that you would be able to shave more than 5-7 mins off the 54's existing running time with a limited stop operation, even if you ran it exclusively along Highway 134.

All these dreams will inevitably come true once the REM opens. With a surplus of drivers and rolling stock, you can prepare for true bus service on the south shore.

Since yesterday, The RTL are adding new express bus shelters on Taschereau and Lafayette following a probably new express line for taschereau..

The only other one im aware of is on the corner of Taschereau and Churchill.

I'm guessing it will be the 477 because it does pretty much the same route except it goes to Terminus Longueuil...

Here is a picture I tooked this morning of one of thoses.

I'm sorry for the very low quality...I was late for my bus and I had to do this quick ?

Also you might want to take note that today RTL 2-00XX units are unusally very active. I saw 3 of them. Which are the following:

C2-0004 on the 20, C2-0005 ( back in service) on the 76, and C2-0007 on the 84. image.thumb.png.598d0a6d9e815b3104b6388187e3cd92.png

The short term calls for further hiring of bus operators and a gradual increase of the bus fleet because we are actually looking to increase and improve service. I expect the subsequent phases of the proposed Réseau rapide d'agglomeration (following the first phase, being the Roland-Therrien express service) to begin not long after the REM is open to Brossard. There will be a surplus of vehicles and operators no longer crossing the Champlain Bridge in droves. Management has promised the union to give drivers job security after three years of employment. Therefore there should not be as much layoffs compared to OC Transpo… sorry to say,

I was wondering when the REM opens, what will happen to Terminus Centre-Ville since there will be a train connection?

The REM will be a connection for the South Shore. I know Ville de St-Jean wants to continue limited service into Montreal last I heard. I suspect that TCV2 will be closed as it was dubbed as a temporary measure and anything that connects to Downtown that is not serviced by the REM would be transferred into the current TCV (exo Sud-Ouest, exo Haut-St-Laurent, exo Sainte-Julie, Transdev Limocar). I wouldn't even be surprised to see Megabus move into TCV as Double Decker buses are able to enter with no problems, it would relieve the traffic caused when the buses are loading and unloading.

Nobody knows anything at RTL so the best thing to do is adopt a wait and see attitude. The one thing I do remember on this topic with regard to the non-competition clause was that new parallel services would not be allowed, so there may be a chance of maintaining minimal service to TCV... but I remain pessimistic. I would like to think that we can provide SPS shuttles but this needs to be enshrined in our new collective agreement in 2022.

As an aside, I sincerely believe that TCV can serve as a very good terminus for the 747.

But with the REM, the 747 will be replaced with the REM. I doubt that the non-competition clause will be put into affect, it will be challanged in court.
