TTC Orion VII Retirements

Interesting that the 50 series was the first clean diesel engine. Does that mean that compared to today's standards they are not considered clean? I don't want to think about what kind of pollution a fish bowl or a bus of that era emits.

Particulates like Black Carbon are bad for air quality and public health, so that's a reason to retire these buses. The S50EGR doesn't have a DPF or an SCR system, so its NOx and PM emissions are certainly higher than what you'd see on a new Cummins L9. It seems like every time I see a slow box Orion VII accelerate, a cloud of black particulates comes out of the exhaust pipe, so I wouldn't call them clean by today's standards. I'm used to "clean diesel engine" (a loosely defined term in my opinion) being applied to post EPA 2007 models, which usually have particulate filters, but definitions can vary.

So to update from my post last week... the following Eglinton units saw at least one day of service this week according to online trackers:

7405, 7414, 7415, 7418, 7421, 7433, 7450, 7460, 7466, 7474, 7480, 7488, 7493,

7502, 7504, 7512, 7514, 7517, 7521, 7522, 7535, 7537, 7540, 7541, 7557, 7558, 7575, 7577, 7581, 7587, 7591, 7595, 7596,

7601, 7606, 7617, 7620, 7621, 7637, 7638, 7647, 7669, 7673, 7675, 7681, 7683, 7684, 7689, 7691,

7702, 7705, 7707

This leaves 52 units in regular service, a decrease from 72 in regular service last week. This is not to say that every unit not listed is retired, but is more to indicate generally how many units are left.

I wouldn't exactly say that 7617 has a working tracker, it probably would have showed up at Eglinton Garage. 22.thumb.PNG.0387cc05d98b0d48dc562c90e9350384.PNG

You appear to have misunderstood my post. The list of vehicles I posted were in service during the past week. So at least once between Monday morning and Friday afternoon all the buses I listed were out in service. Just because it's in the yard now doesn't mean it wasn't operating during the past 6 days.

is 7617's tracker still working? lol. I saw it yesterday stripped ready for scrap first in line in front of retired 7538.

does anyone know if these buses are still tracking? 7522, 7548, 7601, 7640, and 7882.

7617 is showing up at a place where it is impossible to be (it's showing up past Vaughan, which I doubt has actually happened).

And to answer your question, 25.thumb.PNG.3fb6092d0050cc6011dbfe4b614f50c4.PNG26.thumb.PNG.a88e090e7d8fbf0d50430f214159a44d.PNG27.thumb.PNG.0597b9687de27d3c7c0f12b3f745ca20.PNG29.thumb.PNG.ec84692fc33d0b3f97afee1be8417388.PNG30.thumb.PNG.7060f7366084258fac9479195fe30929.PNG

The ones that have blue are most likely already scrapped or it's just that the GPS has been taken off. On another note, 1655 is showing up at the same place as 7617, so idk what's going on.

New retirements:

7418, 7619, 7699, 7494, 7446, 7504, 7540, 7545, 7555, 7569, 7447, 7538.

While visiting Eglinton 7401 was there. I can 100% confirm it's retired, since the front TTC logo and number have been removed. In other retirement news, 7508 has moved back to Eglinton after being at Birchmount for around 4 months.

7493 7630 7640 are tracking the colour blue. I am assuming they are definetly retired.

7493 is tracking at Eglinton, and the blue just means it's GPS is pretty much dead.

But yea, use 7508 as an example. It's tracking blue, but I saw it at Eglinton on Sunday.

They're not "tracking blue". The GPS is reporting their location as being in the middle of Lake Ontario. This happens to a considerable portion of vehicles that are retired or MIA, so I'm assuming that that particular location in a lake is a default coordinate for the GPS system or something that it got sent to when the vehicle lost its signal.
