chasbo2
Ok transit/vehicle experts. I'm trying to figure out the difference between a Detroit Diesel Series 40 engine and a Detroit Diesel Series 40E engine. What I know so far is the 7.6 liter engine is the 40E and the 8.7 liter engine is the regular series 40. Do both engines sound the same or does one sound different than the other? OCTD 2039
Detroit Diesel Series 40 is the original version and the Series 40E is the electronic version of that engine. They're rebranded International DT/Maxxforce engines, along with the Detroit Diesel Series 30. Here is a link to show the difference between them: http://extranet.detroitdiesel.com/public/specs/3sa540.pdf
chasbo2
So after reading the PDF, it seems they only sold the electronic version to coach/bus manufacters. I am amazed but not surprised. Somehow when I was looking on Gillig's website: http://web.archive.org/web/20011021134537/ it showed it was only selling the electronic version. Even though the had two different liter engines, I can conclude that both engines sound exactly the same.
