Unfortunately Porter has suspended all flights until June 1st, 2020 because of COVID-19. All aircraft are grounded and all pilots are not flying. I wish the best to Porter as a airline as well as all their employees during this difficult time. Many of you know this but I thought I would enlighten everyone who doesn't.

Porter Airlines extends flight shutdown to June 29

Airline has laid off most of its staff because of COVID-19

Porter Airlines has extended the temporary halting of all of its flights by four more weeks, until June 29.

The Toronto-based airline announced last month that it would be suspending all of its flights as of March 21 until June 1 because of the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

On Monday, the airline extended those shutdown plans by at least another four weeks.

"Our initial restart date of June 1 was something we believed was reasonable at the time," president and CEO Michael Deluce said in a news release.

"While there are many promising signs about how COVID-19 is being contained, it is also clear that border restrictions, government-imposed stay-at-home orders and bans on non-essential travel will remain in place for many regions through much of May and into June. This makes it difficult for people to travel, so Porter will continue aligning its approach with the public health response."

Like many airlines, Porter was hit hard by the dramatic reduction of air travel because of COVID-19. In addition to grounding all of its flights, the airline said it issued temporary layoff notices to most of its 1,500 staff members. The airline said it has been able to rehire some of them during the shutdown by applying for a new government wage subsidy program that covers up to 75 per cent of salary costs.

Porter Airlines deferring resumption of service to July 29

TORONTO / May 26, 2020 - Porter Airlines is deferring its resumption of flights until July 29, one month later than previously scheduled, due to ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions.

“We want to see our planes in the sky as soon as possible and are actively working to prepare for our resumption of service. However, the ongoing uncertainty presented by government travel restrictions, including border closures, is impacting our ability to operate flights,” said Michael Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines. “We are closely watching developments and know that Porter will be an important part of providing people with travel options as the economy recovers.”

Seasonal summer markets that Porter intended to serve in 2020 are being cancelled as part of this service deferral. Muskoka, Ont., and Stephenville, N.L., are the two destinations affected.

Porter is preparing to introduce enhanced health and safety measures for its return to service. Details of these initiatives will be announced closer to when flights restart, so that plans are as closely aligned with the latest public health recommendations as possible.

To provide flexibility and give travellers peace of mind when purchasing for future travel, Porter is waiving change and cancellation fees on all fares booked between today and July 29. This also applies to Porter Escapes vacation packages.

Porter Airlines announces new restart date of Aug. 31

TORONTO / June 29, 2020 - Porter Airlines is modifying its return-to-service date in light of ongoing government travel restrictions. The new restart date is Aug. 31, instead of the previously-announced target of July 29.

“Our ability to successfully relaunch service is directly tied to the lifting of travel restrictions,” said Michael Deluce, president and CEO, Porter Airlines. “We believe it is getting closer to a time when people can travel more freely and are optimistic that key border closures and mandatory quarantines will begin easing, so that we can recommence operations.”

Details on Porter’s new Healthy Flights program, designed to keep both passengers and team members safe, will be shared in the coming weeks.

To provide flexibility and give travellers peace of mind when purchasing for future travel, Porter is waiving change and cancellation fees on all fares booked between today and Aug. 31. This also applies to Porter Escapes vacation packages.

Porter temporarily suspended operations as of March 21, due to increasingly-restrictive government travel limitations associated with COVID-19.

porter has placed an order for 30 E195-E2’s and will begin operations from Toronto-Pearson in 2022

Interesting considering that they keep postponing the resumption fo service. I am really hoping Porter Airlines survive since I know I would consider taking a long haul flight depending on pricing and how competitive it is. I know I wouldn't mind heading to Los Angeles, Las Vegas or Vancouver via Porter Airlines once the planes become available and the training and testing of runs is completed.

I wouldn't count on that at all. The airline hasn't confirmed this and Porter employees haven't heard anything either AFAIK.

Porter Airlines plans on adding new destinations and operating out of Pearson International Airport to serve farther destinations with new planes. Expected in mid-2022 pending delivery of new airplanes along with training employees on how to operate and prepare for the long-haul flights.

I wouldn't mind trying out Porter Airlines noting only Air Canada and Westjet are the two major competitors that cover the major routes.

Found this in my FB feed

Porter Airlines

Last week, Embraer brought their demonstrator E195-E2 aircraft to Canada to complete tests that play a key role in our plan to expand our network later this year. They made stops in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, and Iqaluit, Nunavut, for a “cold soak test” before making their way to Ottawa and Toronto for preliminary training with small groups of Porter team members.

Stay tuned for more - we’ll take you behind the scenes as we count down to our first flight with the E195-E2! ?

Porter Airlines is in the process of training 650 pilots for the Embraer E195 E2.

It is a lot different than the turboprop planes that are operated from Toronto Island Airport. Plus they need to understand all the functions and controls before flying on a real E195 E2. Operating much longer and farther distances.
