I presume that 8053 is not roadworthy as I seem to recall it's been towed between OTC-HTC then RTC?

Speaking of the retirement/storage line at HTC is it located on the very west tracks?

Easternmost tracks, closest to the CNG facility. Its visible when passing by on 388, 340 410 and C98 (the latter two gives you the best view). You can see the backs of 7257, 7255, and 8024.

So basically the stored buses are facing the opposite direction versus the HTC fleet?

Thanks for your quick response :)

But would they need the Crane warehouse for that? Isn't there enough room free at Hamilton and Richmond TCs to store the retired and mothballed coaches?

Logically it would be better to store them indoors if they've been selected to be resurrected after several weeks/months.

But wouldn't it make even more sense to keep them as part of the active fleet, use them in service a couple times a week? In addition to keeping them in running condition - because internal-combustion engines don't really like to be stored inactive - it would help reduce utilization of some of the other older buses and help them stay in good condition longer. Not to mention, having the extra buses ready to go the next time the Canada Line shuts down because a couple flakes of snow hit the guideway is always a good thing.

Probably for insurance, and I thought the number of active buses (or at least insurance for them) must remain constant (no fleet increase) between sheets (though the last time we ever saw a D40LF come out of storage was in 2014).

They'd be just fine sitting in storage. Just disconnect their batteries and keep them out of the elements and they will start up no problem. Save some money and store them instead of spending more to keep them on the road just to sit and do nothing. Many companies de-plate buses and let them sit when not in use and bring them right back when time comes.

8023 is at HTC. Farebox and TMAC are still in it, and it does have a new insurance decal (the fleet insurance expires on March 31st so new decals were applied yesterday to at least all active HTC buses). That said, I think it was towed in, because the access panel for tow air hookup on the front of the bus was open.

Only got a brief glance while passing by RTC today, but noticed 8042 parked there with other retired buses

Yes, 8042 and 8033 were there all week. 8042 was my very first bus I drove in service on the 99 after training so I'm sad to see it go :(
