Are the NPCUs still active on the Surfliner? I haven't seen one since 2019.

I believe the surfliner is now 100% Charger.
Though I've seen a couple on the Chehalis VRF railcam (Cascades service)

“Amtrak rail partner Canadian National (CN) has implemented reduced speed regulations in Canada due to heat, impacting the Amtrak Adirondack route.,” said Jason Abrams, a senior public relations manager with Amtrak. “Trains 68 and 69 will originate and terminate in Albany, NY until further notice.”

Wow, Canada gets hot in the summer.  Who knew?

Actually, some of my American colleagues express genuine surprise when I tell them the temperatures we get in the summer.  I guess the stereotype that Canada is a frozen wasteland year-round is more widely believed in the US than it should be?

Sorry to tag you @smallspy, I was hoping you could provide an explanation as to why the Amtrak "Airo"-sets destined for Buffalo/Toronto and Montréal services will feature batteries instead of third-rail shoes?

The one time I've taken the Maple Leaf, the loco was changed in Albany with a P42 (presumably) with shoes for Penn Station.

Edit: Is there an issue with running P42s with third-rail shoes past Albany? Then I could understand why the Siemens trainsets would be configured for battery instead.

Can't wait to see these sets in Toronto!
