ART is a neighborhood transit system serving northern Viriginia, serving mainly in many neighborhoods connecting Metro Stations within Arlington County. They including Ballston, Pentagon, Crystal City, and more. ART service are mainly supplemental services in the county in addition Metrobus also serving the Virginia Area as well. ART's fleet consist a diverse fleet of all CNG power buses: including Chevrolet Express/Aroboc low floor cutaway, 2010 NABI 31-LFW CNG , 2007 and 2009 NABI 35-LFW CNG, and more recently, new 2014 NABI 40-LFW CNG Yesterday I made a visit to DC, as well part of northern Virginia during my day trip. Of course, I got some interesting pics on transitfanning side featuring WMATA Metro Bus, DC Circulator and Arlington Transit ART bus with Orion, New Flyer and NABI. They have been out of service for the last 5 years or so (circa 2013-2014). I actually rode bus #5047, very interesting buses. During my visits to its operating territory in 2008 and 2010, ART was still a relatively young system and the invasion of the NABI 35-LFW CNG buses had just begun in the earnest. Nearly new when first spotted in March 2008, the 2007 NABI 35-LFW Gen I's of the 5270-series are now the agency's oldest buses. They are exemplified by buses 5271, 5272 and 5279. The were supplemented by Gen II sister buses as exemplified by buses and 5253. I have missed the introduction of Gen II 31-LFW's by just a few months. Gen III 40-LFW's and New Flyer XN40's have since joined its heavy-duty fleet as well. On lower-ridership routes back then, 2 series of Ford E-Series/StarTrans Senator cutaways were used, as exemplified by 2002 CNG bus 5220 and 2006 non-CNG bus 5265. A few cutaways routes like route 42 served by bus 5220 and route 51 featured elsewhere in my gallery in the link below, have since been upgraded to NABI's. Other similar routes are served with Chevy/Arboc CNG cutaways. Does anyone know whant kind of engines were used for the 5260-series cutaways? All pictures attached here were taken in 2010 (except buses 5220 and 5279). While buses 5253 and 5271 wepe pictured at/near Shirlington Station, all other pictures were taken at/near the Ballston Metrorail. By now, ART is an 100% low-floor and 100% CNG agency. I always found their numbering scheme strange too, but it's not uncommon for smaller bus systems to have weird numbering patterns. THE BUS in nearby PG County is like that too. I used to see these buses around all the time when I first moved to the DMV from Brooklyn back in fall 2005. When I was still like two to four years old lol. Seems 5252 and 5284 are confirmed retired. Not sure which new buses ART is getting but it will be a CNG order. 5254 and 5286 also haven't tracked in a while as well. It's really weird when you think about it. ART serves a predominantly wealthy demographic, yet their buses suggest otherwise... They're as bad as D.C. Circulator (which is also shockingly bad). Nah a different company (RMA Worldwide Chauffeured Transportation). DC Circulator is more towards the tourist standpoint while ART does a lot of neighborhoods that were either once WMATA routes or neighborhoods WMATA never previously served.
