Apparently Clallam Transit got some new Hybrid mini buses according to this article and I wonder if #629 is one of them in the attached image....: http://www.clallamtransit.com/news.html . I would guess 629 is one of them as there are photos of #624 in the above link.

Also, during my recently visit to Port Angeles last month, I found some Gillig Low Floors numbered 611 up to 615 which are not listed on the Wiki. I visited Port Angeles back in September of 2012 as well and did not see any Gilligs numbered higher than #608 which is also the highest listed on the Wiki page. So if anyone has any more information, it would be greatly appreciated. http://cptdb.ca/wiki/index.php?title=Clallam_Transit

While Googling images of Clallam Transit Buses, I found this image of #907 that was apparently involved in a crash with a suspected DUI.

Also, I have now added Clallam Transit #'s 609, 611-612, 614-615 to the Wiki page, but I do not know what #610 is as well as #613 and even if they exist or not. I do not know when the units that I have added were built either. So any help is appreciated. I may have more info in my collection as well, but I have run out of time before I head to work today, so if I come across the info, I will add it in. http://cptdb.ca/wiki/index.php?title=Clallam_Transit

I have added a New Photo Gallery to my website as well with 10 new photos that I captured during my two seperate stops in Port Angeles at this direct link here: http://www.busdrawings.com/Transit/washington/clallam/index.htm

Does anyone familiar with Clallam Transit's buses remember whether or not their first two Orion I's numbered 581 and 582, which were model 01.504s built in 1984, were powered by Detroit Diesel 6V92TA MUI engines (253 hp) and Allison HT747 transmissions?

Sound recordings would be much appreciated if they ever exist.

Thank you,

I'm also trying to figure out if Clallam Transit's Orion I's were of these VIN numbers:

581: 2B1129277E6894990 or 2B1129776E6894990

582: 2B1129273E6895991 or 2B1129772E6895991

583: 2B1139779L6002595

584: 2B1169777N6003125

585: 2B1169779N6003126

Thank you,

Paging Sherman aka general682002. . . please help me answer whether or not these VINs are correct. I presume all five of these Orion I's had 6V92TA engines and HTB748 transmissions (MT644 or HT747 on 581-582).

581-582 (at least 581) were last seen working in Port Angeles in May 2004 according to Zack W.

The 40ft Orion 1 had a Voith automatic.

The newer 35ft I believe had an Allison, but with the odd lockup in first gear shift pattern that some Orions have had.

Brian,

My guess is you assume that 581-582 used the MT644, which had the lockup in 3rd gear. That might usually mean the presence of the 6V71N engine, although there a few Orion I's with the 6V92TA engine (when delivered new) that used the 644 tranny as well, such as the three 01.506s delivered to the University of Virginia in 1983 (5139, 5239 and 5337).

But getting to 583 that you remember, the 1990 model, the transmission activity on that unit would've likely resembled these two examples of the Orion I:

#1: Oakville Transit 882 (1988 01.508, DD 6V71N / Allison HT747)

#2: York Region Transit (ex-Markham Transit) 2029 (1986 01.508, DD 6V92TA MUI / Allison HT747)

There's more than Gillig's in Clallam Transit's fleet!  But I'm summing up their Gillig LF's first.  The 35ft. versions among the 600-series LF buses are the backbone of their Port Angeles local routes, as illustrated by 2011 bus 611.

Clallam-r22-611.JPG

Their 40ft. sister buses are chiefly deployed on route 30, the Sequim-Port Angeles commuter run like 2008 bus 606 and 2013 bus 614. They were my rides from Sequim to Port Angeles and back during my Fall 2016 visit.

Not previously pictured are the 900 series 2013-built 1-door suburban 40ft. buses, as illustrated by bus 910 (my ride from Forks back to Port Angeles, and my ride to Forks, bus 913 is also in my gallery linked at the end).  They are exclusively used on their route 14, the 1 hour and 20 minute one-way route between Port Angeles and Forks.  No Phantoms were spotted during my spotting trip throughout their operating territory.

On to their cutaways, bus 640 is 1 of a pair of extra-long wheelbase International LC low-floor's, while bus 629 is 1 of 6 Chevy/Arboc combo's built in 2012.  The International's are apparently based in Forks for a rural route based there, while the Arboc's are used on both local and rural routes out of Sequim and Forks.

Bus 611 is pictured at their Port Angeles hub while buses 606, 614 and 629 are pictured at the Sequim Transit Center.  Buses 640 and 910 are pictured at the Forks Transit Center.  My Clallam Transit gallery is available here.  Enjoy my coverage on the agency!
