This evening is round 2

No conformation yet if the morning trains are cancelled?

Also anti pipeline protesters have blocked off the full intersection of Hastings in Clark. All trolley services on E. Hastings are routing via Commercial, Powell (WB), Cordova (EB) Main SB, regular routing Hastings.

R5 Detour Regular route to Hastings and Salisbury, then Salisbury, Franklin, Commercial, Powell, Hawks, Hastings

UBC has protests as well.  49 detouring Wesbrook, Chancellor, Blanca, 16th, Wesbrook.  Good times, good times.

I was on 12024 (lucky catch) heading to UBC detouring via Main, 41st and Oak and my phone buzzes. I look at it to see that there is another detour for the 49. Luckily I got of a few stops before UBC but I told myself "Boy, are these 49 drivers gonna have a great day"*Sarcastically of course*. What really pissed me off and made me question the society we live in is when our bus happened to come to a stop at the RapidBus stop when we were at a red light at Cambie street. People started banging on the door and once the driver open the door and tries to explain that this isn't the R4 people still got on the bus. At first I was like they must be going to UBC so this taking the 49 or R4 at this point wouldn't make a difference. The driver turns off of 41st and onto Oak then 49 where almost all of the people that had boarded at Cambie got off the bus to realize this wasn't the R4, many cussed the driver out for not telling them. As I write this I'm seriously wondering what this world has come to. IS IT THAT HARD TO TAKE 2 AND A HALF SECONDS TO READ THE F**KING DESTINATION SIGN!!!! The second I graduate and find myself a good flight school somewhere in the plains I am getting the hell out of this sh*t show.

Can I just make quick suggestion on flight schools? (Try looking into Kitchener On)

Keep in mind, wherever you go, if that place happens to have transit, you’re still going to bump into the same things there just like you’re encountering here..

I think it has less to do with transit it self but the pure laziness and stupidity of many people that I have encountered in Vancouver. People here (and I know I sound like a geezer for saying this but) always have their nose stuck in their phone and many people are not socially aware at all. This is really just a Vancouver issue because I have taken the Maui Bus and RTC (Québec City) and everyone there is polite and actually socialise on the bus. When I step into a bus in Vancouver with my friends all you can hear is the engine, the music that the guy across from you is playing too loud into his earbuds and me an my friends talking. You'd be lucky to walk into a bus in Vancouver to see anyone younger than 50 involved in an active conversation.  Point being, there is no sense of community in Vancouver and this is really just a "big city" problem.

Sorry for going off topic.

Haha I know I'm going off-topic as well, but your destination sign story reminded me of a couple weeks ago. I was riding the 254 to downtown, and some people got on at Park Royal (not surprising - people go from park royal to downtown all the time), but then when the bus started going towards the Lions Gate Bridge instead of the British Properties they demanded the driver let them off. It's crazy that people don't read stuff like that - the destination sign clearly said VANCOUVER on it instead of BRITISH PROPERTIES lol

I did the 49 yesterday and I had a few angry people.  Not because I didn't tell them. I was on the PA making announcements but because the detour was an inconvenience and there was a bus missing in front. I let people off at Oakridge stn EB, I stopped past the R4 and 41 stop to avoid confusing people but some still came on my bus and I told them "You understand this is a 49 right?" Then some got off and some stayed on. I made it clear the next stop is Main and 49th ave on the PA so no one can fault me. 🙂

I turn the PA volume all the way up and talk slowly pronouncing every syllable so everyone understands to the best of their abilities.

Destination sign says "49 to Granville"  make 2 announcements at Cambie "this bus does not go to UBC, last stop is Granville".  Make another announcement at Oak.  Turn left on to Granville, everyone be like "Aren't you going to UBC?"

Same with if you're doing an "express" route with limited stops, they'll get on and ask you if you stop at "so and so", you tell them no, then they think for a minute and still get on.  Get close to "so and so" and "ding", you drive pass and they complain that you missed your stop.

People are ignorant/clueless, they phase out in their little bubbles with their phones on earbuds.  Doesn't matter if its Vancouver, a big city or small city.

Thomas just because you experienced a situation yesterday there is no need to use "F" word in this forum. I'm sure others & including myself don't appreciate your foul language in here!

Story reads it needed to be towed and from what I heard it was in the process of being towed when this happened.

Wonder which story is correct?

Both are true, as far as I know.

News story read a bit different before, didn't mention it being in the process of being towed, just that it needed to be towed after the accident.  Guess its since been edited.

Saw a Novabus LFS from West Van Transit yesterday right on the north shore side of the lions gate - looks like it hit a car, didn't catch the bus' number. Didn't seem to be a significant accident, although both the bus and the car were pulled off to the side of the road and the drivers were discussing with police. Looks like the bus lightly rear-ended the car.
