M. Parsons
Nice report and nice progress for bus electrification in the frozen north! Is the XE40 warm and toasty too? It's on my to do list. Presumably the folks in the Winnipeg section can provide more input on that as they have the balance of the fleet there. Unfortunately, it's going to be warmer the next time I have a chance to get out and intercept the bus. It's worth noting too, 6011 has a taller roof (my head is nowhere near toughing the roof) than the demo that St. Albert had. There's also a difference with the rear wheel well. LRT
Just curious...anybody know how there charging these units? I know when 6013 was in Calgary last year they had it hooked up to a generator.
M. Parsons
The last pair of BYD's saw a charger installed at DLM. I suspect that's the case this time. However, we don't know how long the BYD is here for. 6013 I "only" 5 weeks so it's tough to say if they'd go to the trouble of installing something. Given though that ETS is testing energy consumption it would make the most sense to run it off the grid. Trevor should go poke around Mitchell! awstott
I suspect they would have wired in a charger. All you really need is a pigtail off the charger and to place it next to a breaker panel with the correct supply. The city has all kinds of electricians on staff so it wouldn't be a huge deal. Wouldn't that be funny if the green buses are running off diesel anyways
LRT
I know the Flyer has a pantagraph on the roof...not sure about the BYDSs. Mass Transit Magazine Dec/Jan highlights about Electric Buses. By the sounds of it BYD is definitely the industry leader. They offer a 12 year warranty on there batteries surpassing the buses average lifespan! The batteries are designed to out last the bus for crying out loud. They also offer articulated buses and a BRT option. They have supplied electric BRT buses to Kuala Lumpur. Los Angeles also took delivery of 5 BYD buses. BYD will also be building electric double decker buses for London so something to look for later this year. A little mention about the XE40 bus. It completed Altoona testing. I guess they will be testing a XE60 soon too! Nova Bus also delivered an electric battery powered bus to STM So the sky's the limit on this technology I would highly recommend this read! MAX BRT
Thanks for the heads up on the magazine. I found it online and its called the "BYD Sponsored Issue" http://www.masstransitmag.com/magazine/mass/issue/2015/oct Looks like the whole issue is an ad for BYD. Doesn't mean its not worth reading though.

2044
Manufactured November 2014 Interesting, thanks. So it's one we've haven't seen before. I personally like the uncovered roofline. The beige demo just looks like a rolling slab.

M. Parsons
Well, I'm curious if 6013 is done now. She saw very intermittent usage this week. Didn't go out Tuesday PM or Wednesday AM, went out Wednesday PM and Thursday AM, but, hasn't been out for the Thursday PM or at all Friday. 6011 also missed Thursday PM. Thursday I actually tried a electric bus to electric bus transfer as they were within 10 minutes of each other on 107 Ave, alas, 6013 was just too far (1 minute) ahead of my 8 to pull it off. Never the less, I caught up with 6011 at the Yellowhead and rode to Castle Downs, and then headed for Mitchell where I caught 6013 returning. 6011 had people handing out surveys, which I hadn't seen yet through this demo, and 6013 had an extra body onboard in a jacket that looks like the type PR-types get, so they were probably doing surveys on that bus too. Caught up with 6011 today on the 128 in the afternoon.
