I know the engine codes (digit 7 in VIN) on all the Flxibles are correct for Tri-Met, but it's the seating/wheelchair spaces and air brake type (digits 6 and 8 in VIN respectively) that are to be determined. What I mean is I am unsure if Tri-Met specified the same attributes for the seating/wheelchair and brakes on all these models from 1988-89 and 1992-94, but what I do know is that none of Tri-Met's Flxible Metros have air conditioning, so the body type code (digit 5) I mention may be more or less correct.

It's done, however I have a couple of things to mention:

  • I've tried to check the VINs with the "N" body type for 550-637 and 1817-1853 to see if any of them have/had a vehicle record, but none popped up. However, all of them have records with the "C" body type in their VINs, which means those buses were originally built with air conditioners before they were eventually removed.
  • I'm unable to find the correct VINs for 1809-1816. I've tried a combination of VIN digits of "N," "C," and "T" body types and all brake systems and not a single one appeared to have a vehicle record. Therefore, I only posted the last 8 digits of their VINs.

Thank you!

I am sure someone else might have the correct information about all of these units (esp. for 550-637 and 1809-1816). Only a look at the VIN plates inside the buses will really help us on this. Too bad the only Flxibles TriMet has at present are the 1700s and 1900s (their 1817 series was retired just last September).

Some more... from Folsom Stage Lines of Folsom, CA:

1GF5EBCK5MD101505 - 1991 Flxible Metro "B" 30096-6C no. 60

1GF5EBCK7MD101506 - 1991 Flxible Metro "B" 30096-6C no. 130

Both use the California-mandated version of the Cummins LTA10-240B engine (code "C" in digit 7). The OMOT website erroneously gives these serial numbers as LD101505-LD101506 and also as being delivered in February 1990.

  • 2 weeks later...

On second thought, I also want to think that the 1993 Flxible Metro "D" LNG buses Tri-Met had might originally have been spec'd with an HVAC unit but, like the 1994 deliveries that followed (1817-1843 and 1844-1853), had the device removed before entering service.

Therefore, I want to think these are actually the correct VIN numbers for these eight buses:

1809: 1GF5ACXK4PD103486

1810: 1GF5ACXK6PD103487

1811: 1GF5ACXK8PD103488

1812: 1GF5ACXKXPD103489

1813: 1GF5ACXK6PD103490

1814: 1GF5ACXK8PD103491

1815: 1GF5ACXKXPD103492

1816: 1GF5ACXK1PD103493

I was also going to update my original VIN theory for units 1701-1808 and 1901-1910, because even these buses originally had the HVAC installed, but were subsequently removed before entering service. Thus, I am going to correct my original VIN numbers accordingly.

(the interior for bus no. 1762 has that sticker suggesting HVAC was there initially)

Yup, those are the ones.  I didn't think of checking the VINs with the "X" engine code.  They've been added.
