MVTArider
Made a quick visit to Des Moines yesterday, newest buses in the fleet are cutaways from what I saw. Freightliner Champion combo. Gilligs are still pounding the streets in force, so I guess those 20 XD40 haven't come in yet. Actually I barely saw any Xcelsiors during my visit, but got photos of the three I did see. The rehabbed D60LF look awesome! I think they have ISL/B400R but I would need to ride one to confirm. I rode one of the 2010 VIING, a couple of the 2001/2002 Low Floors, and a couple 2006 VII. Still not a fan of the 10xx Orions, IMO they ride stiff and feel jolty. (Glad Metro Transit went with Gillig if that would've been what they could've gotten.) The 2006 VII are pretty nice though, maybe it's a difference in axle specs and powertrain? And of course 2000s era Gillig Low Floors with ISL/Voith D864.3e are my favorite so I was happy to ride a couple of those. They run pretty well for 14 year old buses that AFAIK have never had a major overhaul.

Joshuamumble
DART has another D60LF up for sale: https://www.govdeals.ca/index.cfm?fa=Main.Item&itemid=320&acctid=6980 Anyone know why these would be retired and replaced with shorter buses? MightyMiDi
They were only being used on peak-time express routes and were retired after the Iowa State Fair, guessing ridership on express routes into and out of Des Moines hasn't recovered and it will be cheaper to go with 40 foot buses until the demand is there again.
