Benjamin
Has anyone ever been down to Knoxville, TN in the past 10 years and shot any pictures/videos of any buses they had there? This video, by Montigue Magruder (MetroLinerXLZ), devotes the first third of its length to the KAT system. Does anyone know if KAT still runs their nine Flxible Metro "D" 30-foot buses, and what transmissions these may use? 881-887 were delivered in 1993 and use the big Cummins L10E diesel engine, while 888-889 were delivered in 1994 and use the small Cummins C8.3 diesel engine. Both sets may have used either the Voith D863.2-W7 or ZF ECOMAT 4HP590 transmissions. ~Ben
Chris H
I went to Knoxville both in 2010 and 2011. In 2010, I saw Nova LFS (painted orange) and RTS (painted light blue and orange) along with the Optima Opus, Ford Cutaways, and Gillig LFs. The second visit in 2011, the LFS are gone and the remaining RTS were only used as backup (saw one at the transit center parked). The Flxibles are long gone. It looks like in that video is what I saw in 2011. KAT is a Gillig majority fleet now.
Buzz2kb
Here's my photo chronicle on KAT's operations in 2013: For its lowest ridership services, KAT uses 2 different kinds of cutaways, the short wheelbase 2000 series (illustrated by Ford/StarTran Senator SII cutaway 2001) and the long wheelbase 3000 series (depicted by Ford/Goshen GC II cutaway 3006). KAT has at least 10 of the former and 6 of the latter. According to this Knoxville city blog post, the latter are either supplemented or replaced by 6 Ford/Champion LF Transport low-floor cutaways, of which 3010 is one. KAT has 28 Optima Opus buses (20 X 30ft. buses numbered 701-720 and 8 X 35 ft. buses numbered 931-938). They are illustrated by buses 708 and 931 respectively. It then turned to Gillig for its next new buses. It has at least 26 of the 35ft. Low Floor in the 4000 series represented by EPA-2007 bus 4001 and EPA-2010 bus 4026 (All but 4001-4003 are EPA-2010 buses). At least eight 40ft. sister buses are also with KAT's fleet, EPA-2007 bus 5003 and EPA-2010 bus 5008 (It seems buses up to 5006 are EPA-2007, and 5007 onward are EPA-2010). They have since been supplemented by an unknown number of similar hybrid buses. KAT also operates a few trolley replica services. By the time of my 2013 visit, it only uses Gillig Trolley Replicas on them. It has at least 7 of them (4 EPA-2007 examples represented by bus 31 and 3 EPA-2010 examples represented by bus 37). busboy335
@BroncoFan623 Just an update, 5011 is at Clarke’s for battery repair work. 5009 and 5010 can be spotted on Kingston pike or on the Broadway route. Here’s a few more pictures while we’re at it.

busboy335
Back when we had them, 5011 used to be on Magnolia a lot. (I used to to drive it during the week) but now it’s been supplanted by 5003. Hopefully it’ll be back soon

busboy335
3016 has now arrived. 3018 is still AWOL but I imagine it’ll be here soon. They still don’t even have their license plates yet. KAT has begun the decommissioning process on 3 of our cut-away busses (3001 one for sure but I don’t know which others yet.)

busboy335
So here’s a quick update, our electric new flyer busses have been announced internally, the schematics have been posted. They will be road numbered: 3501-3512 (allegedly, there will be an order for 6 more once these are delivered but that is just a rumor for now). Supposedly, two will be delivered in May of this year and the rest in September but the remaining 10 in September won’t be on the road until next year (again, hearsay but that’s all I’ve got for now). But this is exciting! The reason for the long time between delivery and being put into service is because we need to be trained on the new busses, they need to finalize the infrastructure (platform charger) and getting the plates and tags for the busses have been taking substantially longer due to COVID 2

busboy335
That’s what I’ve heard through the grapevine but it’ll be a while til they’re on the road. (For example, 3016-3018 still don’t have plates yet because the DSD is so backed up due to COVID)
