but If we're talking about a catastrophic failure bringing the platform to the ground, that's bullshit. It never happened. ( I've maintained those lifts for 10 years, on a fleet of 150 so equipped)

low floor buses going forward, anyway.

Didn't happen to me personally, but I've heard of it from other drivers at my garage with the TTC *shrug*.
