Benjamin
I see no one here but me has devoted a topic here to Montgomery County RideOn of Rockville, MD. http://en.wikipedia....ki/Ride_On_(bus) http://cptdb.ca/wiki...p?title=Ride-On One of the interesting topics concerning MCRO is about the removal last year (2012) of 60 Champion/Navistar shuttle buses due to seven fire-related incidents, the first few of which reported in 2009. The 60 buses were originally placed in service in 2007. Ever since the fires consumed seven of these buses, the MCRO drivers' union had been skeptical about their reliability. http://articles.wash...buses-bus-fleet http://www.nbcwashin...-144716835.html http://www.wtop.com/...us-manufacturer When these buses were removed, MCRO ran on a Sunday/holiday schedule until it received leased buses from WMATA and PAT (Port Authority of Allegheny County), numbering 48 in all, to temporarily fill the void left by the Champion buses. 15 of these (13 of which were purchased using ARRA funding) were from PAT and are 2003 model Navistar/Mid Bus type "C" buses (PAT had retired these as part of their budget cuts in 2011) while the other 30 are 30-foot 1997 Orion V's representing the WMATA leases. 28 of the 60 replacement buses, made by Gillig, will show up in the MCRO fleet this July while the other 32 are expected to show up in the summer of 2014. http://www6.montgome...0130204_TE3.pdf ~Ben Edited March 29, 2013 by Benjamin
Tom1122
I saw a few of the WMATA 30 foot Orion 5s leased by RideOn and rode one in service last week.
WMATAC40LF
Thought this was worth posting. Ride On is looking to buy up to 87 diesel articulated buses for use on future BRT routes in Montgomery County. Nova has already responded, and I expect NFI will bid as well. The plan is to eventually have 102 miles of BRT routes (although the 10 corridors they want will probably take a while). Last fall they initiated the Ride On Extra express bus service from Medical Center Station to the LakeForest Transit Center, using 40' Gillig BRT plus buses. https://apps.montgomerycountymd.gov/prosolicitation/SolicitationsAndBidsDetails.aspx?type=Formal&id=6592

DCTransitFilms
Ride On has more 30 foot Gilligs on the move. One unit is 2037D so this looks like it will replace some of the older 2009 Gilligs and are numbered 2020D+. i heard some already retired but I saw some back in December at Montgomery mall but again not sure. The 2020 batch supposedly replaced the 2008 Gilligs but I just saw 5003 on the 29 a few days ago and another one along the 495 like a week ago so I’m not sure. DCTransitFilms
Seems Ride On Nicholson's garage are getting the 2020 Gillig Low Floor 29 footers as they have been appearing on Nicholson routes all day today most notable 42001D and 42012D. Likely because the 2021 Gillig Low Floors (as far as Ik 42020D-42038D) have slowly entered service and are pushing the 2020 units to Nicholson to replace the 2009 units there. Ride On's 2020 Gillig Low Floors 44145D-44153D are also at Gathersburg despite it entering service from Silver Spring last year.

Their fleet is now over 95% Advantage..... You know you got too many of one bus model when you have a newer version of a model, replacing an older one. Soon, there will be systems in the country having new Xcelsiors replacing old Xcelsiors from a decade ago... WMATA and Fairfax Connector included... DCTransitFilms
for Ride On new's 29 Ft Gilligs, I don't know how many they got total as Ik they're currently at 42001D-42019D for 2020 and 42020D-42038D for 2021 (though 42020D-42037D are listed as 2020 models and 42038D is listed as a 2021 model). I actually do not know how many does Ride On have, if theres anything after 42038D, or any other information about these buses though. But 42020D-42038D has entered service from Gathersburg and 42001D-42019D are moving to Nicholson.
DCTransitFilms
Seems Ride On has retired the last of its 2009 29 ft Gilligs (5007-5031). None are at Nicholson garage per a friend and instead, the 2020 Gilligs 29 fts are there. As ik a few of the retired buses are sitting at some lot nearby Shady Grove station so they're likely there as well.

They haven't brought a new hybrid fleet since 2013 or so.

DCTransitFilms
Ride On is now tracking on Transsee again. With easier tracking abilities, it seems some 29 footer 2009 units are still lingering around after all with 5008, 5011, and 5029 are known to be active still. None of the 2020 or 2021 buses can be tracked yet though which idk why. Seems Nicholson is also a Weekday only garage now with their weekend routes now split between Silver Spring (23, 29, 38, 42) and Gathersburg (45, 83, 97, 98). DCTransitFilms
It looks like The 2020 Gilligs have moved to from Gathersburg to Silver Spring (44145D-441453D) recently. Pictures of them on Silver Spring were sent to me earlier. I’m not sure of all went exactly though as they’re hard to track right now since Transsee does not track any of the 2020-21 buses yet (42001D-42038D, and 44145D-44153D) or they’re still at Gathersburg. I think it’s also the second time they were held at Silver Spring garage as 44145D found its way onto the 13 last year before being moved to Gathersburg. here’s a pic of 44148D on Route 12 at Silver Spring taken by my friend. DCTransitFilms
Looks like the remaining 2009 Gillig Low Floors from Silver Spring garage has been moved to Gathersburg (5749-5757) as 5755 is on the 64. I’m guessing this is in exchange for 4145D-4153D moving to Silver Spring. Not sure about 5758 yet as 5759-5770 are still at Silver Spring.

DCTransitFilms
42016D-42019D are still at Gathersburg per sightings. I can't accurately place any of the newer Ride-On buses yet as none are tracking on Transsee. Also the remaining 2009 29 ft Low Floors still in service are 5008, 5011, 5025, 5027-5029 from Nicholson.
