Carbon, when spun into long fibers, can be made to be quite strong and durable, but that's as much due to design, layup (the way the layers are oriented) and resin as the material itself.

Solid blocks of carbon as used for overhead power pickup, on the other hand, is very hard and long-wearing but not particularly strong at all, and will chip and crack quite easily. But the whole of the wiper is not made of carbon - only an insert installed in the top of it. The rest is made of steel and fibreglass.

Yes, I know that there is only thin strip of carbon up there. Was wondering what the chances of a carbon strip succumbing to a direct hit by hail. First off all what are the chances of hail hitting the strip (yes I know anything is possible) and further how would it stand up to an impact. Surely someone, somewhere has studied this.

Of course any damage may not be immediately noticeable, so in a few weeks, months, years, the damage could manifest itself in a catastrophic way and brink the catenary down.

Hopefully there aren't any people riding the train that are frightened of the dark... I also noticed that on my rides in on the 202 after this past weekend. Are there going to be more lights installed close to the entrance?

The new lights are already installed. Also, right now, daylight pours through the gaps between the walls and ceiling planks, so it's not too bad.

It's about time. Possibly some of the work done this weekend..

All traffic light controllers between macleod trail and 9 street on 7 avenue and 4 and 6 avenues were replaced this weekend. 7 at macleod came back and bit then with the safety features tied into running a train reverse into city hall.

Beginning Tuesday, Oct. 13, you may start noticing four-car CTrains on the tracks along the 201 Red Line.

Two four-car trains will be in service throughout most of the day from Oct. 13-23 as we continue with preparations to introduce some four-car train service in December.

Both four-car trains will be used to prepare our Operators and staff for the upcoming transition to four-car CTrain service and will be in regular service for you to board as any other train.

As long as everything goes right, the boys at anderson garage say that key 1 (first train of the morning until about 1945) and key 7 (3rd train out of somerset in the am until about 0100) should be 4 cars tomorrow. I will be on key 1 tomorrow night for the last trip.

These should be the two block schedules.

Key 1:

Key 7:

Keep in mind that these are based on the final destination of the train and not their starting point. So, for example, key 1 starts in as a Tuscany train at 0347, arrives at Tuscany at 0429, then departs Tuscany for Somerset-Bridlewood at 0432.

UPDATE: There’s a slight delay in the start of training. Last minute calculations and trials have shown that there's a risk of nuisance faults in the power system and we want to ensure reliability is as high as possible when in service since the training cars will be carrying customers. Therefore, we're taking some extra precautions in the power system and we will start in-service training in about a week.

Excellent. Such a wonder seeing 4 cars on the rails.

It was a pleasure to drive too. The series 8 runs way better then a series 5,6 & 7 (when I drove them on the WLRT during commissioning) Can't feel a difference between 3 cars or 4 nice power, acceleration and braking!

Just rode 2312-2338-2307-2316 Somerset-Heritage. Feels just like a 3 car train to no surprise. Literally the only difference is noticed when switching tracks for the obvious length reason. Filmed it crossing 162Ave and departing Heritage. Expect both videos up around 9:00 tonight.
