With the evacuation order being lifted for communities along Highway 97 (including Williams Lake), full service will resume tomorrow between Vancouver/Kamloops and Prince George.

Service resumes for now....but could be suspended at anytime due to the Fire situation and with Williams Lake and other areas still being on Evacuation alert...alot could happen in the days and weeks ahead.

Clinton,BC was just evacuated this evening and Hwy 97 is Closed Again ...So not surprising...!  Service will be cutoff again !! Unless the buses take Hwy 24 at 100 Mile house to get to kamloops.

Good question....But I hear Sask crown investments has several decent coaches for sale and trailers too...lol

The greyhounds referbs are starting to fall apart , and when compared to other coach companies they really are not the best fleet wise

Been noticing for the past month or so alot of Greyhound overloads from Toronto on the Southern Ontario routes from Kunkel, Badder and Cherrey. Also notice that Greyhound is doing alot more charter/site seeing work in Niagara and other places. Wondering why if Greyhound is running extra sections or they very short buses due to retirements for them having to get charter company overloads before the busy season.

I passed bye to yard today in Toronto and there was a lot of equipment sitting around.

One or two blue coaches in the bone yard...are they retired?

There was a GO unit in the yard also. Anyone know if GO transit is renting space there?

GO has leased a handful (4-6?) of spaces in Greyhound's Toronto yard for long-term parking for a few years now. There are only 7 layover spaces in the terminal (and 2 on the north side of the barrier), and it's nowhere near enough to store all the buses taking extended layovers. So basically most buses with at least 45 minutes between arrival/departure at Union Station Bus Terminal are scheduled to deadhead to the Greyhound yard and use the layover spots there. Previous to leasing from Greyhound, GO had an arrangement with a parking lot down on Cherry Street - IIRC it was the go kart lot by Polson Street, but it proved problematic in the summer months when the owner needed the parking spaces for their (paying) customers.

Before GO had dedicated layover spots, buses would park anywhere in the south end of downtown - Freeland and Cooper Streets were particularly popular, and you could see 1-3 buses on the side of those streets almost anytime of the day. Sometimes buses would use the curb lanes of Bay or Lake Shore as well, and some longer layovers ventured down to side streets in the Port Lands. Basically centralizing the layover spots is more professional, and prevents traffic congestion from buses blocking lanes (and getting tickets for being illegally parked).

Effective Mar.10th Alsask Bus Lines will cease All Operations according to their website.  They had just recently started a Regina to Saskatoon run(ended Mar.1) and have since 2011 ran Calgary to Alsask and just started last summer operating all the way to Saskatoon. I would think it must be some kind of internal decision at ASB as they had just bought a new unit for their operations in the fall. That corridor provided a huge alternative to people going from Calgary to Saskatoon as well as parcels too.

Does Greyhound still have any coaches left on Vancouver Island? If not, who are they primarily contracting their runs out to - Tofino or Wilson's?

I believe they have no coaches on the Island....No idea who their using either...Wilson's maybe? I know they use wilsons for their Vancouver to Whistler and Pemberton service.

Greyhound will Cease All remaining Vancouver Island passenger service effective April 4. Tofino Bus will then expand to operating 4 daily trips between Victoria and Nanaimo and will continue as Greyhound's Vancouver Island agent and Interline partner. They will expand to a 5th trip on Fri and Sun effective mid May.

Well looks like effective June 1  Alberta will feel the rath of the BC reductions.  Major run  reductions between Calgary and Edmonton most schedules will be so they connect to/from Vancouver at Calgary,...Fort McMurray and Grande Prairie will be reduced to 1 trip each way.

I could maybe see Greyhound reducing frequency on all runs North of Winnipeg. And possibly eliminating Saskatoon to Winnipeg. Also eliminating all service White River to Sudbury and just feeding into Ontario Northland for Service between White River-Sudbury-Toronto and Ottawa as they are already an interline partner with Greyhound. So could be a seemless transition.

That would turn the clock back, in a sense...

At one time, GLC and ECG were isolated from each other's routes, and relied on Gray Coach Lines to bridge the gap from Toronto to Sudbury.

One unique result of that pool, was Gray Coach driver's were the only one, out of all the Greyhound pool partner's in North America, to get to operate the MC-6 Supercruiser...

I just looked through the Greyhound Canada System Timetable and if they want to cut more we could anticipate:

  • Kamloops - Kelowna - Penticton: Reduced to 1x daily
  • Calgary - Lethbridge - Kelowna: Reduced to 3x weekly
  • Edmonton - Fort McMurray: Reduced to 1x daily
  • Edmonton - Saskatoon: Discontinued, 1x daily Edmonton - Winnipeg retained
  • Winnipeg - Thompson: Reduced to 3x weekly
  • Winnipeg - Flin Flon: Reduced to 3x weekly
  • Winnipeg - Toronto: Reduced to 3x weekly
  • Thompson - Gilliam: Reduced to 2x weekly
  • Thompson - Cross Lake: Reduced to 1x weekly
  • Toronto Area Commuter Service: Discontinued, replaced by GO Transit

Would GLI want to run stuff in Canada? I’m not sure what you’re getting at with those last few...

Did you just take the whole time table and guess what would happen, based on no factual information?

I don't think it would be legal for GLI to carry passengers wholly within Canada...besides, why would FirstGroup do that, since they still own both?
