Yeah, the only fishbowls in the old colours at the time were 8051 and 8058. 8685 was in the new scheme. Saw it on an Orion III charter that made a stop at Danforth Division.

Did the TTC order a consecutive batch of Fishbowls with water bumpers or were they completely random or retrofits? In my many trips to Toronto during that era, I don't seem to recall any consistent numbering (i.e. a batch).

OC Transpo did not have any of these on their GMs, in fact only a very few had black rubber bumpers (IIRC mostly some of the 76XXs + 7715 & 1 74XX (7405 seems to ring a bell).

I have a photocopy of a coupler article from 1969(?) when the first order of TTC buses with waterbumpers was ordered. As a side note, when I first became really observant in my hobby, I was always under the impression only "large" cities had buses with water bumpers (this was in the days before the internet, so my research was limited) so imagine my surprise when I went to Durham College in fall 1992, and saw an Oshawa Transit bus with waterbumpers! (wish I had been taking more photo's then). Since then of course I have given up my attempts to catalogue and keep a list  transit systems in the US and Canada that had Fishbowls with waterbumpers,  so many agencies seemed to have. I heard of a uk bus operator Mersyside possibly that had waterbumpers as and experiment on one of it's Daimler Fleetlines, but have never seen it.  Have seen a few Fleetlines with the Firestone safety bumpers.

Just a random factoid: they actually had salt water brine, or failing that engine coolant (ethylene glycol/ water mix) in the bumpers.

ice blocks encased in rubber during the winter would negate any benifits the water bumper had, for obvious reasons.

2 speed vh-9 powertrain? Probably not. Those things were leaky and unreliable even back in the day.

better to keep the v730

so 8058 will be used for parts only but won't be restored? So sad................

Personally, I think using the roll sign would make more sense if they are making an 8058 clone. Those flip dots were old, faded and barely working by the end and were usually repaired temporarily with a good shake or a smack to the rear. I know they saved quite a few during decommissioning for parts but I doubt they are in very good shape.

i wish the bus could be painted back to the CLRV scheme back when the bus was brand new, and re-fleeted back to #8752, and of course with the rollsign installed back from 8058 as well to make it perfect, if this is not too much request.

I hope the restoration rebuild of 2252 will be completed by September's Harvey & Duncan Shop Open House, if the event is happening.  If it's not completed, I would like to get a photo of 2252 of the rebuild during the open house.
