That isnt street legal there is it?

I did some looking around online and it is OK to drive an LHD car in Ireland, though the insurance premiums would be higher (one site estimated the increase to be about 25%). A bus would likely be OK too, especially considering the tourist coaches that come over from the continent. Of course, any vehicle would require Irish number plates to be driven on the road.

Britain drives on the right hand side of the road. I guess the fishbowl needs a special permit or something in order to drive on the streets in UK.

I know, but haven't you seen right hand drive vehicles here? There all over, seems like more than ever. I don't know if they require special permits for them, I kinda doubt it. As long as the vehicle is mechanically safe and the driver has the required licence and obeys traffic laws what difference does it make what side the steering wheel is on? As for over there, I kinda doubt it too (special left hand drive permit), but if so it's not like said permit can't be obtained, but how much would they really drive it if it's a museum piece anyway?

I've personally seen right-hand vehicles here all the time, so I honestly don't see what the issue is with the Fishbowl being LHD. Hell, watch Top Gear and they have all different types of vehicles driving around (even center-drive!). Yes, I can see there being differences in insurance, but I agree with you, I can't see the position of the steering wheel causing legal issues. The vehicle is mechanically safe and the drive obeys the laws of the road, what difference does it make?

This comment isn't TTC-related, but I thought the Toronto board members might like to know that STO have brought back New Look 7901 into service in a backup role. So if you're visiting Ottawa-Gatineau, you just may see a fishie again during rush hour periods!

I visited an old friend, in Ireland this past Saturday: ex-TTC 2290.

She is in great hands and is well looked after.

Enjoy!

Lovely video, thanks for sharing.

Very nice! I wonder if GM ever considered an export market in the UK. Flxible did send over a demo to a commercial vehicle trade show (1969 as I recall). Perhaps a 102 inch wide bus might be a bit much for country roads?

There were a lot of bus manufacturers in the UK pre the Thatcher sell-off. Leyland, AEC, Bristol, Dennis, Daimler, Guy etc. Probably too much competition or restrictions on imports to make it viable.

It's been 3 years, but I finally got around to sorting my photos from the TTS GM New Look Charter that took place on November 5, 2011.
