TOFINO BUS....on Vancouver Island

Tofino bus is applying to end service north of Campbell river.

There was a total of 4068 riders last year making for 5-6 per round-trip. 4068 is a lot of trips that'll be made impossible if this goes through, which is awful for those relying on it. The route isn't subsidized as of now though, and with how many private operators have struggled recently, it might be needed for a lot of small town  and rural services to allow intercity mobility in BC for those unable or unwilling to drive. Like the current system is supposed to make the profitable routes subsidize the unprofitable ones, but there's a point there's not enough money and the cost to use the major routes just goes up.

The license needs to be changed so they can run 2-4 days a week. Some service is better then no service

Well Im not thinking they will get what exactly they ask for. As that would leave that corridor with 0 service at all south of Port McNeil, at least Campbell River south has something! They do have some ridership and they've noted that. I'd say  nothing bigger than a Sprinter type vehicle running 3 x week on that run with those numbers is all that should be needed. This run is different than runs  Greyhound eliminated they did over several years, Don't think theirs any they totally got rid of without reducing some service first before getting rid of it totally. But well see how it plays out!

Certainly running less service is another valid option. My thoughts on subsidies more aim for how small towns across Canada and the US are losing transportation access and the current model appears to be increasing unsustainable when funded fully with fares. Kinda like what happened to urban transit systems in the post-war era. Rural areas are more prone to poverty than urban ones and it's important access remains across the province for residents and visitors alike, so however those critical connections are provided doesn't matter as long as they exist kinda deal.

VI Connector/Tofino Bus was granted permission to end their Campbell River to Port Hardy run but I did hear that Wavin Flags Taxi/Limo was going to apply for the service operating 2-3 x week between the two towns. And using the Campbell River bus depot to connect with VI connector bus.

VI Connector/Tofino Bus will restart their Victoria-Nanaimo-Port Alberni-Campbell River service as of Apr.1  Its much less than what they were running but at least its something. Also BC Ferries connector will re start at same time. Thanks to a grant from BC Gov. this service is possible.
