323 Surrey Ctrl Stn Posted September 10, 2012 Report Posted September 10, 2012 I figured with the Compass project in full gear and R7112 starting to make more public appearances it might be time to gather everything together under one thread. Discussion of: 1) Fare gates 2) Compass cards/testing 3) R7112 the Compass bus 4) Anything relating to the upcoming smart card system I'll start it off with some photos of R7112 from today's Roadeo at STC http://www.flickr.com/photos/chsscassidy/sets/72157631492462156/with/7968154448/ Sadly I didn't get any interior shots as the bus had a constant flow of people going inside but I can note a few things. - The entire drivers side of the bus has inward facing seats, no seats on curbside - Compass readers front and back - New flooring, and carpet on the ceiling - Rear is a full "U" seating setup - LCD TV inside on the curbside facing the benches - LOTS of blue Chris Cassidy

translink Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 As of today, they've begun work on the expo line stations. Starting with Commercial Broadway. It will be interesting to see how they integrate things at Metrotown and Main St. Since they're the only two without the gates. Image Source: http://forum.skyscra...&postcount=1765 - Bryan "Goggles"
StormThief24 Posted September 13, 2012 Report Posted September 13, 2012 That is the most awesome comment ever.

Coastal Transit Fan Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 With the Add-Fare machines on the other side of the gates, what's stopping people from avoiding the machine and cheating the system? - Bryan "Goggles" If it's like most other systems with the same type of fare gates, you will need to tap to exit in order to enforce the fare zones/distance limitations.
ilikebuses Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Faregates are installed at 22nd Street Station. Faregates haven't been installed at Columbia yet.
captaintrolley Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Apparently 2102 is at Oakridge and has been retrofitted with Compass - compatible fare equipment.
Meraki Posted September 22, 2012 Report Posted September 22, 2012 Last night people were installing new Compass enabled fare machines at New West station. I'll post a picture when I wake up.

Michael Marriott Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 Compass fare machines are in place at the Commercial-Broadway Station entrance to the EB 9 stop.
captaintrolley Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 Compass fare machines are in place at the Commercial-Broadway Station entrance to the EB 9 stop. Nice. I'll get to see those later today.
Shuttle Queen Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 P7424 is outfitted with all the Compass equipment
Brando737 Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 I think Poco is the first depot that will be fully compass equipped. Expect more Poco buses to have compass equipment on board. Also wanted to mention that faregates and Compass machines are installed at Lonsdale Quay. Ive heard that one fare gate can handle 40 people in one minute, all tapping to activate the gate.
ilikebuses Posted October 30, 2012 Report Posted October 30, 2012 I think the order is Poco, Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey (i think), North Van ( i think), then Richmond.
translink fan Posted October 31, 2012 Report Posted October 31, 2012 Took my first look at the gates yesterday at waterfront. Intresting little things. I thought the gates were hollowed pieces of molded plasic. But they seem pretty solid and sturdy.
G.A Posted November 1, 2012 Report Posted November 1, 2012 This is pretty much like Presto in Ontario.
translink Posted November 2, 2012 Report Posted November 2, 2012 Someone was asking about how long it would take for cards to be read. - Bryan "Goggles"
