Mr. Linsky
I'm sure that most of you have seen GM Old Looks with 'push open' rear doors as have I but, to my recollection, never on a 4509. Attached and seen in Washington, D.C. in November of 1972 is fleet # 850 - a 1951 GM Coach Model TDH 4509 operating for the Alexandria, Barcroft and Washington Transit Company (AB&W) of Alexandria, Virginia. # 850, showing its very original and colorful AB&W livery and rare set of push open rear doors, started life as part of an order of twenty-seven likenesses for Indianapolis Railway Company and then on to Virginia Transit in 1962 followed by its arrival in Alexandria in 1972. AB&W, a commuter service between Virginia and the nation's capital, was absorbed by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) in 1973. A good friend of mine that drove # 850 when it was # 74 at Virginia Transit said that it was a very good driver in spite of its age. Photo courtesy of 4509bus and is up for bid on eBay as item # 350586734310.
