'The Wrong Man'

Recommended Posts

Seen in Jackson Heights, Queens on location in a scene from Warner Brother's 1956 release of Alfred Hitchcock's 'The Wrong Man' is fleet # 2391 - a 1950 GM Coach Model TDH 4509 operating for the Fifth Avenue Coach Company of Manhattan, New York.

The film, starring Henry Fonda (seen prominently in the right frame), is based on a true story about an innocent man who is wrongly accused of twice holding up an insurance office in the Jackson Heights neighborhood where he lives and the more he cooperates with the police in their investigation the more guilty he looks.

As a string bassist in a jazz combo at Manhattan's Stork Club, Fonda's character, Manny Balestrero, commutes to and from his job each night on Fifth Avenue's # 15 Jackson Heights line.

Some trivia; apparently, the sequences in which the bus appeared were shot prior to the time the company's name was changed to Fifth Avenue Coach Lines in that same year, and a good deal of the filming was done in and around the Victor Moore Arcade building where the real robberies took place.
