jfs1988
Public Transit in Mexico Leon, Guanajuato MX ______________________________________________ OPTIBUS Leon was the first city in Mexico to create a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. Optibus is nicknamed "La Oruga" by locals because the articulated buses look like big green Caterpillars. This is one of their newest buses. Bus_Medic
Neat concept! Keep them coming! I would like to see the high level boarding concept take hold here in Canada, but I'm not sure it would fly given our ice and snow.
jfs1988
Tijuana, Baja California MX. The Mexican border city of Tijuana is a great place for bus fanning and its close to home (for most SoCal BusFans). Many can bus fan in San Diego & Tijuana in the same day. Lets look at some of Tijuana's transit buses. #I-168 from Tijuana's "Azul y Blanco" (Blue & White). I think this is the main transit agency for the municipality. Azul y Blanco #1-311. Here is Azul y Blanco bus #1-118 covered in advertisement wrapping. This bus was once used in the United States. It is a Gillig Phantom. RTS & Flxible Metro are also becoming familiar faces in Tijuana's transit agency. Tijuana also uses old school buses. #539 & #402. I dont remember what this transit angency is called. There is also another transit agency in Tijuana that uses orange buses. Tijuana also has buses manufactured in Mexico which include DINA, Marcopolo, & International. tomsbuspage
Lets look at some of Tijuana's transit buses. My trip to Tijuana was in July 2005, when they were running Flyers, Gilligs, Grummans, AMGs and a Flxible New Look (didn't get photos of the last two...):

Anyways, it looks like the guy in white top with some red thing in his hand thinks he is center of attention with his photo being taken... NOT! jfs1988
Well, MexiCoach has a 1989 NABI Ikarus (ex San Diego MTS). I hope we see a Neoplan AN440 in Tijuana soon.

jfs1988
It looks like Tijuana is testing Chinese made Low Floor buses. Not sure if its for a BRT. I cant wait to go & see them for myself one of these days.
2044
It is a Higer bus marketed under the Stallion name in North America. Known as the SBTC 4540-LF here, it looks like it's based on the Chinese Higer B92H KLQ6129GQ1. Tijuana Bus by So Cal Metro, on Flickr
jfs1988
************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************** I went to Tijuana on Saturday. Here is a few bus photos I got. Azul y Blanco #31 Californianos #38 I was looking for that new low floor bus but didnt find it. I didnt even saw the ex U.S. transit buses (with the exception of MexiCoach Gilligs). The reason I didnt was probably because I was only driving around Plaza Rio, San Ysidro Border Crossing, & the airport. BTW, I heard a light rail system is in planning. It will parallel the river. jfs1988
Those low floor buses look nice. I wonder where they get their destination signs from? Probably made in Mexico unless they order from Luminator or TwinVision.

A. Wong
jfs1988: Please avoid quoting multiple images in your posts. It makes it doubly long to scroll through. Nice to see you caught a photo of one of those crazy XCARET buses - I saw them all along the highway but never got a decent picture of one. I really like the design of those Irizar Scania buses ... but I am pretty sure they are taller than an H3-45!
jfs1988
I had a 2 week vacation in Leon, Gto this month. Here is a few transit bus photos. A new member of my hometown of Duarte. Suburbano #3000 in downtown Leon. The town of Comanjilla which is in the neighboring municipality of Silao also got a new bus. I forgot the # of this one. Transporte Urbano de Leon #605. Some of the newer buses are starting to have LED headsigns.

I wish I'd kept the photo albums instead of my ex-husband... i took well over 4500 photos.. about 300 of them were buses..
A. Wong
I will be uploading some pictures shortly from my trip to Cancun - I also saw that red double decker bus! The destination signs on newer coach buses were Aesys, I would assume the color ones on the newer public low floor buses are the same. They play music on all the public buses, and the newer buses have LCD TVs on them too! The fare is about $0.65 CAD. It seems like the buses that run on the "R" routes in the hotel zone are privately owned and multiple companies are allowed to pick up on the route. Some buses were more sketchy than the others... Was the double decker you saw a double rear axles bus with a blue Visa ad on it?. Fares are like that all across Mexico. It seems more that each route is run by a different company or co-op with no one company running 2-4 routes.
A. Wong
No it was that red Routemaster in the previous set of pictures that you posted. Here are some of my photos (not the best): Sorry, condensation in the lens.

MT0603
I see someone was at Beach Palace. I would say it's relatively easy to get a highway facing room, given when I was in Cancun in April all the ocean view rooms were booked up. Speaking of Cancun, I only rode one bus that was playing music and it was the only Volvo low-floor I rode, operated by Turicun, who also operate International and Mercedes-Benz badged highfloors. It seems as if there are 4 companies that essentially compete along the R-1 route; Turicun, Maya Caribe, Autocar and Movil. Maya Caribe and Movil seemed to have the dingiest buses. Autocar and Turicun's buses were pretty good. For 8 pesos (Or 1 USD), the experience is definitely worth it and we ended up taking the bus several times.
