Board Admin A. Wong Posted December 25, 2011 Board Admin Report Share Posted December 25, 2011 We have introduced a CPTDB chat room with the new software. Do you like it? We want your opinion. Think long term - just because it is new, a lot of people are trying it out and finding it neat. But would you continue to use it? If there is a large interest, I think we could try expanding it to 50 users at once, and then if the interest dies down then we can always have the 5 users, or bump down to 20. captaintrolley
Not sure how to use it. First, someone you want to chat with has to be logged onto CPTDB, right ? So then how do you get that persons attention that you want to chat with them ?
Articulated
Not sure how to use it. First, someone you want to chat with has to be logged onto CPTDB, right ? So then how do you get that persons attention that you want to chat with them ? It's a chatroom open to any individual... think of it as a waiting room in a train station or something, with a maximum capacity of 5. You talk with anyone and everyone who is in the chatroom. D40LF
Having already used it I found it interesting, able to ask questions and get a quick answer. I think it should be expanded.
vivablue5215
It's definitely a good place to learn about different transit systems (e.g: The Calgary Transit chat we had this morning) from different board members without digging through the subsections of each thread. Although I will agree a cap limit is needed, but it should be higher than 5.
translink fan
i say 10-15 is a good cap number. the chat is very interesting and useful!
Newflyer3
I think the chat is a brilliant tool. It's a better way to communicate than waiting 5 hours for a post reply I find! LOL I also have learnt quite a bit about transit systems on the east coast!
Board Admin A. Wong Posted December 27, 2011 Author Board Admin Report Share Posted December 27, 2011 Well, seems like it is pretty popular, so I've purchased the 20 user limit plan. I think it should take effect soon! It was hard enough keeping track with 5 users, so I hope it's not too crazy with more.
flyer_e901
I had my first chat with a few of the guys yesterday morning. It was great!
canuck600
Is there a way you can see who(forum user name) is in the chat room at any given time? That is a feature I find useful in other chat rooms I have used. If it's a extra cost feature don't bother with it though, running the forums and the chat is alredy enough of a cost burden. Board Admin A. Wong Posted December 27, 2011 Author Board Admin Report Share Posted December 27, 2011 Yes, at the very bottom of the main board index page it lists everyone in the chat room. Also, if you enter, everyone's names are listed on the right hand side.
captaintrolley
Why does the chat room show 1 person in it (at the top), but at the bottom it shows [ 0 users in the chat room] ? I've refreshed and cleared the cookies. Just wondering...
captaintrolley
Never mind. It's fine now. Must've been a chat-gremlin.
Board Admin A. Wong Posted February 15, 2012 Author Board Admin Report Share Posted February 15, 2012 Sometimes there is a delay in the numbers not matching up because the chat room is not hosted on the same server.
captaintrolley
I just figured it's some loner in there talking to himself
BCT-3122-D800-10240
Do members get 'Kicked Out" if they are idle too long in the room? I entered the room last night and then went off to another window completely forgetting I was in there and when I returned there was a message saying that I was kicked out. No one else was in the chat room either when I entered.

There is a chat server reset that happens around 4 am EST and it does boot everyone from the room

newflyerinvero
Pardon teh bump. But I had noticed a few minutes ago as I tried to enter the chat room. An error message saying that the member limit has been reached at five and I have to wait until someone leaves. I figured this was corrected some time ago and didn't think this problem would come back. Have the standards changed?
Root Admin ORION Posted January 28, 2013 Root Admin Report Share Posted January 28, 2013 There was not enough demand and usage for 20 members. This feature costs extra and it was decided that we will downgrade it to the original limit of 5 members at a time.
