Bombardier inspected a couple of the U2 cars a few years back and were deemed too far gone and more price effective to purchase a replacement fleet This is most comforting as I commute home today aboard #2079
TimmyC62
Quick question: how do they move CTrain cars on and off the transport car? Mobile cranes, forklifts, or do those red pillars have a device for lifting?

I guess they also have a ramp that they never use too
LRT
Here is car 2066 back in January when Edmonton Transit first viewed the car. It may have been in and out of service since then but I'm not sure

Pantograf
The next 4 U2's on the chopping block are 2064 and 2080 that will join 2066 in Edmonton and 2077 and 2042 that will be scrapped here at OBMF.

Pantograf
For the money they paid, you couldn't buy a used bike so the biggest expense will be transport and disposal and I'm sure they were trying to keep that to a minimum. 3 is the number I have but as with everything else, the final number is subject to change. Greatcoinz
Noticed 2077?, the retired car at Oliver Bowen being cuffed to another U2. Probably being moved inside to get more parts removed before being split in two.

Jon From what I understand once the car gets to Edmonton it will be towed back and taken apart right away cut up and sent for scrap. Probably brake components, cam controllers, pantagraph, traction motors, bogie frames.. ect
Greatcoinz
A gutted U2 connected to a SD-160 Series 8 is sitting on the tracks where B/O trains sit and wait there turn for maintenance. I presume it is 2077.

Those are useless to Edmonton, but, if 2066 is one with the replacement auxiliary converter that would be useful! The SIMATIC and master controller are probably useful as well. Hell, doors might even be useful. There was still a orange U2 door lurking around DLM. Pantograph not so much. The refurbishment tender called for at a minimum that the pans to be modified, if not out right replaced, so that they used the same carbon inserts as the SD's. BCT-3122-D800-10240
Spotted #2042 inside the shops at OBMF all parted out for scrap. And 2077 is in fact the car that you can see parked outside in scrap condition.
awstott
Well 2066 still hadn't made it to Cromdale as of Sunday. It's punted out in the Bissell yard in west Edmonton. Photo from across like 6 lanes of traffic (or maybe it's 8!) CTrain in Edmonton by Andrew Stott, on Flickr 4
