For the love of god be 60s... I’m not setting foot in another n22 or n24 until they put artics on those two, even off peak those two routes are absolute disasters. Forget getting on those buses after 179......

That said i imagine/hope most of those will be for expansion? There’s not much to retire after all?

If they have over 500,000 miles i think they can be retired.

Just an update on the XN40 order. Apparently the 2019 batch was only for 10 units, not 15. #1980-1984 are not yet built.

Also, I never understood why NICE didn't renumber the XN60s to a different series. The 1900's should all be XN40s. The XN60s (both current and future units) should be numbered in the #1400s in my opinion.

I wish they had done that too, put them in the 1000-1699, or 2300 and up.

If it were up to me i woulda put the XN60s in the 60XX series since it’s not like they’ll ever own more than 100 artics at once. Too bad they can’t do 40XX and have it make sense

The think Artics will play a larger role in the bus fleet in the near future. When the Orion VII NG CNGs start being retired and replaced in the coming years, I can see a mix of new XN40s and XN60s.

The XN40 that got rear-ended a year or so ago by a car was actually bus #1961, not #1951. It is still out of service getting repaired in NJ along side with NYCT LFSAs #5299 and #5477.

Just curious, but does anyone know when the Flexible 870s/Metros got retired? I know some of the newer Orion V CNGs replaced them, but what year were they withdrawn from service on Long Island bus?

It seems that NICE bus still has at least 1 2004 Orion 5.501 CNG left on property. Someone on youtube a few days ago spotted #1648 parked OOS at MF depot between a couple of Next Generations. Possibly a future Museum bus???

NICE is now having passengers board in the rear of buses for B/O safety, following NYCT's/BC's lead.

The n88 returns for service this weekend. Extra buses will be provided to meet service demand. Of course, social distancing will be enforced by NICE and all trips are free of charge.

Does NICE have any new bus orders in the works?

This has been bugging me for a while but how long are the tanks good for on the NG CNGs? I know the 3G CNGs are at least 18 years, but I don't know about the older ones..

We don't know what NICE's plans are for the future just yet. For all we know, they could get 200+ artics in the coming years. They'll need new garages for that, but still, if given the resources, NICE bus could easily reach 600 or more buses.

Quite sad that this is rare now. NICE has really gone to the toilet in terms of interesting-ness.

Perhaps that’s what put 1758 on the road... Especially if NICE doesn’t have many school trippers (do they have any at all actually?)

On a completely unrelated note I got a question about Long Beach transit (NOT california, the LI one): do they have the phantoms still?

2013 Orion VII EPA10 3G CNG #1879 now sports cameras on the exterior of the bus, similar to the Xcelsiors  (both NICE and MTA). Wonder if the Older NG CNGs will get them too...

NICE bus is getting ready to receive over $18 million in federal funding this year. Among other things, they are going to use it to order 23 new Compress Natural Gas buses (most likely more Xcelsiors, though it is unknown if they will be XN40s, XN60s or a mix of both) and several new replacement Able-ride buses/vans. I suspect that the new CNGs (most likely 2021 models) will be replacing some of the worst performing 2009 Orion VII NG CNGs (#1700s) though those buses might not get retired out right, but instead be sent to storage at RVC depot as backup buses since there is plenty of life left in the tanks.

Just an update, but according to NYCTFs, NICE bus is going to be taking delivery of 60 new Gillig Advantage CNG buses (That's right, Gillig!!) sometime next year to start slowly phasing out the Orion VII NG CNG fleet (mostly the 2008-2009 units). It is unknown if these will be standards, BRTs, or a bit of both. Also unknown is the upcoming numbers for these CNGs, but if they were to continue the current scheme, I suppose the order will be #1980-2039 with possible options for farther units down the road. This is a true shocker for NICE bus as it might as well be the MTA getting these. I guess Nassau is done with XN40s (for now atleast, but more XN60s are coming in the near future).

Also, 3G CNGs #1851-1852 have cameras now too.

I was thinking that since they don't have anything on the books(?) it's too late for a new bus order so transdev may transfer some goodies over to them, like they did a few years ago with the old Foothill Orions. Then again, IDK for sure

Do you think that Gillig CNGs will do ok with NICE bus?
