TTC T1 Movement thread

They've been mingling for a while now. I first saw 5308/09 with two pairs of lower-numbered bretherin 2 or 3 weeks ago.

AFAIK the first set that went down (5300-5305) was spotted together as a set for about a week then was broken up and intermingled after that; the other sets seem to be following that. However, I did see 5300-5305 back together (albeit not in numerical order like they were sent down in) in mid-October.

On the YUS on Friday November 4th: 5334/35, 5348/49

On the YUS on Saturday November 5th: 5334/35, 5338/39, 5346/47

On the BD on Saturday November 5th: 5312/13

Kind of behind on my sightings...

On the YUS:

November 14th: 5338/39

November 15th: 5344/45

November 16th: 5346/47

Nothing new on the BD line... there are now 15 transferred pairs, or enough for 5 full trainsets. In other words, there were 24 T1 sets out in service on the BD line yesterday; this amounts to every single pre-movement T1 plus two extras, which kind of shows how many units have been transferred over.

5330/31 is already on the BD line, although it is the highest unit :lol:. 5326/27 is still missing, otherwise everything from 5300-5331 is at Greenwood.

BTW, is there some problem with you being able to post in that there is code visible in your post (unintentionally)?

We have a new candidate for transferring to the Bloor-Danforth: Finch 5346-5347-5339-5338-5333-5332 Downsview was out yesterday. 5334/35 was also out.

As a result of 5346/47 seemingly ready to move, I'm extending the tracking list up to include all 53xx series (up to 5371).

5333-32 5321-20 50xx-50xx was on BD today! So 5332-33 have been moved for sure!

I'm scratching my head on this one. Finch 5346-5347-5339-5338-5279-5278 Downsview was out on the YUS today, so I'm wondering if they just moved 5332/33 on its own down to Greenwood?

Finch 5360-5361-5357-5356-5298-5299 Downsview was also on the YUS

Looks like 5336-37 might have moved to the BD. I got a (not so good) photo of 5337 today deadheading northbound through St Patrick as the end car on 254 with Kennedy up on the rollsign. 5338-39 are still on the YUS though, I saw them in the middle of a Wilson train set today.

5336-5337 is indeed on the BD today.

EDIT: T1-related, even if it isn't a movement, per sé... 5004 and 5005, not in service, was at Davisville Yard yesterday. Just thought I'd add it on.

Last week was interesting...I shot all three of the initial 5000 sets as end cars on the BD line one evening (5001-00, 5003-02, 5004-05, plus 5006-07).

I'm wondering how this is going to work out. With each new TR set they keep transferring higher 5300's until they move them all, and probably start on the high 5200's and work down to the 5100's. Of course, it'll take a number of years for enough TR's to build up to kill off all the H5's and H6's.

I have no idea exactly how many H4s are still left in active service, but I'm assuming that 22 pairs were still active at the beginning of 2011 (or 7 sets and an extra pair), and we have had 17 T1 pairs (assuming there's still one unspotted T1 pair) or roughly 6 sets move to the BD.

At this rate I doubt that all the 53xx will be moved down to the BD initially; they will probably send down maybe 2-3 more sets, enough to retire all of the H4s still active, and then retirements will shift to the H5s, which the TRs will be directly replacing. It might be a few years until the rest of the 53xx move down, and who knows what the TTC's mindset will be like then in terms of orderly transference.
