Halifax (metro) Transit.

It's funny actually, I can't stand the Chickenburgers at Chickenburger - it was a nasty surprise when I first ordered one! I'm quite partial to their cheeseburgers, though - they have a good "diner" taste to them. But truth be told, it's the milkshakes that keep me coming back.

In short, the answer to your question is yes. ;)

Now that really is funny, because I hate the Chickenburger Chickenburgers too. Well, I shouldn't say hate, but it's not the reason I go there - cheeseburgers and onion rings, with a strawberry shake. If it wasn't 11:30 right now I would be heading to Bedford right now, you're making me hungry. Still haven't done the trip to the airport yet, I've been busy pretty much every day after work. Good to hear the service is popular and getting used! But, why am I not in the least bit surprised the park and ride lot would be under-sized. You would think they would have learned from the Portland Hills and Sackville park and ride lots, which also had to be expanded shortly after they were opened.

As for Fall River being suburbia? I wouldn't even call it that. It's rural as far as I'm concerned.

I've noticed lately the out of service destination signs on the artic LFS' have been altered. In addition to out of service, they also list the HRM call centre phone number, as well as Metro Transit's website and Twitter name, or whatever the @ is, I'm not a Twitter person... Kinda nice to see they finally hired somebody who actually knows how to program a destination sign.

Since I'm on the subject, the inboud route 62 now says Bridge Terminal via Manor Park. Messy, uninformative and non-helpful destination signs have always been a pet peeve of mine.

so, 2 weeks today, I'll be landing in Halifax, very little money, but very excited for the future..

I've got my route to the backpackers inn planned, now to spend the next 2 weeks learning the bus schedules..

there is an iPhone app for Halifax Metro, but I'm concerned if its accurate or not..

After the 28th, I'll be in a homeless shelter most likely, so I'll have lots of time to roam around, I'm also coming out there with a TTC hat on my head, as my best friend, gave me his, he never wears it, but he wants me to wear it out there....

I also am bringing my camping gear, in case theres a place to camp for a few weeks..

I just want to also thank everyone who has contacted me, about my routes & figuring out how to get from the Via station to the Inn.

They have all the route schedules posted in one booket.

None of the Halifax Metro apps are official (made by them) so accuracy is a definite concern. Metro Transit does have their schedules on Google but like most systems there, some stops are in the wrong place or both directions are shown in one place.

Found this on the Ctv news ap on my iPhone. Judging by the picture the bus involved was 1033

CTV Atlantic

A Metro Transit bus caught on fire early Friday morning.

The incident happened at the Penhorn Mall bus terminal on Portland Street in Dartmouth, N.S around 6:30 a.m.

Fire broke out in the dash area of the bus. It didn't take firefighters long to put the flames out, but damage to the bus is extensive.

There are reports that a faulty defrost system may have been to blame. An investigation is underway.

So there's been a lot of talk around here ( Halifax ) about how dangerous the current Bridge Terminal is, I can attest to it myself, Saturday afternoon a guy decided to try, RUNNING for a 1 Spring Garden... Ok people this bus route is EVERY 15 MINUTES on daytime Saturday's!! Come on! There is NO need to RUN across the driveway, nearly get hit by 2 other buses, just to run after a bus that runs that often!!

Geez! Glad he's not trying to catch a 54!!

btw while I'm on the subject of stupid human tricks...

On Friday, a guy tried to DIVE OFF THE FERRY DOCK! At Alderny docks!

Ok enough ranting...

On Tuesday night, I was verbally Assulted by 2 woman with massive baby strollers.... On a Nova on route 10....

Something happened that has NEVER happened in my lifetime, The bus driver dealt with the issue, amazingly, going as far as when I ran off the bus suddenly at a stop 6 stops before my own, trying to get away from these 2 girls, he parked the bus, & GOT OFF to see if I was ok!! Infact he kicked these 2 people OFF, & proceeded to leave them at the stop, as he was driving he called dispatch, & got supervisors & (I think) police... I have NEVER had anyone do this.. I just have put up with the abuse & gotten off to wait for the next bus...

They were thanked officially already

Ugh, baby strollers... this bus I was on back in Winnipeg, had five - FIVE - at the front seats, blocking the rest of the passengers from the back of the bus. It's ridiculous... wish D40's were still being made. Then, it'd be impossible to be invaded by strollers!!!

You heard about the guy who was unfortunately hit by a bus on Spring Garden the other week, running to try and catch it? I think the news story said he was actually run over or something. Some people don't think.

Construction progress of the new Bridge Terminal, taken today. Apologies for the iPhone-level quality, but I figured any shots were better than none.

Looking down on the terminal:

A closer view of the overpass, which will be landscaped:

At the bottom of this shot is the (as-of-yet uncompleted) exit to Thistle Street:

This is supposed to be open in two weeks. Let's just say I'm a bit skeptical...

Makes our Western Canadian bus terminals look like crap!!!!!

Expect for Winnipegs Balmoral Station. That one could actually compete with the one your building haha

Example:

Used to be a former Greyhound terminal. Now its home to roughly 15 bus routes, a University of Winnipeg expansion - and a pizza parlour serving beer. :P

August 27 route and schedule changes are up. A few major changes to take note of.

* Route 3 discontinued. Finally.

* Most of the Halifax and Sackville/Bedford routes that were affected had to do with removing service after 8pm on routes that don't see much use. Specifically affected: 15, 82, 83, 88, 89

* Route 58 will no longer be extended into Halifax/Mumford during rush hours; all trips to terminate at the Bridge Terminal. Route 1 will receive some extra trips to make up for it and provide 10 minute frequency during rush hour.

* Route 165 will no longer service Penhorn Terminal. I don't think I've ever seen anybody get on or off at that stop. In fact, I don't see too many people on that route at all. Also some AM and PM peak trips are removed.

* Route 41/42 will resume service as it does every school year

* Route 330 new park and ride lot at Sheldrake Lake is opening with 40 parking spots. Additional trip times added as well. Wonder if this route is busy enough to start adding some "big boy" buses to it.

* Community Transit routes will become part of the regular transit system, and will no longer be treated as a separate system. Bus stops are going up along the routes, so drivers won't be stopping wherever passengers want them to. Route numbers assigned as follows: 400 Beaver Bank, 401 Porters Lake, 402 Sambro.

* High-frequency Portland Street corridor. There will be significant changes to the routes 59, 61 and 68 to create 10-minute weekday service along Portland Street between Portland Hills Terminal and the Bridge Terminal, and 20-minute service on weekends. This includes off-peak.

* Route 59 will have some extra trips from the Bridge Terminal added that will short turn at Portland Hills Terminal, not heading out to Colby Village. This seems to be meant to help augment service on the busiest part of the Portland corridor.

* Alderney terminal southbound bus stops will be re-aligned to make it more difficult for people :) - the pamphlet is rather confusing, but it seems the current stop closest to Ochterloney (currently the 58/59/61/62/68) will now be only routes 54/58/62. The stop in front of the library and closer to the ferry terminal (currently the 54/59/60/63/159) will be for routes 59/60/61/63/68/158. There's more space at this stop than the other one, so it makes some sense.

* Bridge Terminal set to open August 27

I think that's it. :)

Just thinking about the rearrangements at Alderney. They really had to do something, if you've ever been there at rush hour, around :00 and :30 you've got the 54 laying over, the 60 and 63 both depart at the same time for some reason, the 59 is usually there at the same time because it's always late, and the 159 is usually trying to roll in at the same time. Having all of those routes trying to fit in at the same time at one stop is quite the sight to see. Splitting things up and moving them around makes sense.

I'm glad to see their finally doing something about the Alderny setup, it WAS quite a sight to see all the frequent routes get bunched up at the one stop, while cherrywood & Montebello would be sitting there laying over, the LINK has always had its own spot, but it would get sqeezed by the 54 & the other route that shared the spot with 54, all the time!

glad to see the 54 move also for the fact that its now easier to get to the library for me, as i wont have to battle through crowds to get to the doors..

Interesting service changes ... I am glad that we did the stop at the Northridge Loop during the MCI Classic artic fan trip. It makes the shot on route 3 even more rare.

Nice photo! The idea of an artic on the route 3 is... hilarious!

Transit seems to be really running with this "Portland Street corridor" thing. Some destination signs have already been reprogrammed. So far I have seen:

59 Portland Street to Colby

61 Portland Street to Auburn N-Preston (I think it said N-Preston)

68 Portland Street to CherryBrook

And for the AM inbound 59:

59 Downtown Halifax to Summer Street (Halifax may have been abbreviated)

That's awesome! Grab a slice and hop on the bus! (not together though, obviously...) :)

Man that was a good charter! How about Transportation weekend 2014 in Halifax?

I am totally there!

Yes, methinks they really want to "brand it" as something new. Good on them for trying, hopefully the riders will show up to justify it.

On a side note, does anyone else think the Bridge Terminal won't be finished on time? Was by the site today, and it seems like a mess. I noticed they're working Saturdays now as well...probably trying to get as much done as possible!

...and how timely. They've delayed the opening to September 17th.

Also, they've posted an RFP for the retail space inside the new terminal. Some nice aerial photos of the construction site as well...
