Halifax (metro) Transit.

Those parallel seating on the lower floor section, I've been told it's to evacuate the bus faster than face forward seating. To me, it's more like high capacity.

Buses 1001-1082 have that perimeter seating shown in the picture, while 1083+ have a more standard configuration. Both seat 36, but I have no doubt you can jam more people on the perimeter buses. That, and wheelchairs only take up 3 seats per chair in that layout, as opposed to 5 per chair in the standard layout.

Just to let everyone know Double T and I are doing a road trip down to Nova Scotia. We will be wearing OC Transpo hats and we will be fanning Metro Transit.

If you see us, don't be afraid to approach us. :D

We had a great time, we saw/rode everything Halifax has except the fishbowls.

We didn't even see one of them.

Double T really enjoyed the ferries.

The ferries rarely get mentioned, despite the fact they're probably one of the most iconic things in Halifax! When I worked on the Halifax side I used to take the ferry every day, and loved it. Now I work right across from the ferry terminal on the Dartmouth side, so I spend a lot of time watching them come and go.

Did you catch the Woodside I with the new livery?

Glad you both enjoyed your visit!

I caught the Woodside I, but due to a communication error, after I got on it, I realized I left Double T in Dartmouth. So he caught the Halifax III but he noticed the Woodside I.

So he didn't get to ride the Woodside I, but I did.

Well internally it doesn't have much going for it that the others don't, it's the exterior that counts with that one

Although the three ferries curiously enough do have slightly different interior arrangements..

RFP is up on the Halifax website for supply of up to 45 60-foot low floor transit buses.

Gee, I wonder if New Flyer will win...

Yes, seems like a lock to me too. In the meantime, here are our newest toys.

If I can grab a shot, there's something else I want a photo of that made me nearly crap my pants when I first saw it. Stay tuned for more.

Very nasty looking.. I feel bad for the drivers that will get stuck driving those things..

What the? Are those for low ridership route?

Scheme is not bad at least, but certainly it won't last forever on the road of course.

IIRC it's for some rural express routes or something along those lines.

The MetroX is a rural express service MT is looking to launch this year, starting in Tantallon, then to Enfield and Musquodoboit. The buses are comfy for the passengers, with LINK-style seating (but no foot rests), and wheelchairs go in the back, like in an Access-a-Bus. Drivers putting said wheelchairs in will likely hit their head on the A/C unit overhead, if they haven't hit their head getting in the driver's seat first. There was a delay getting these because GMC temporarily shut down the plant that makes them due to the recession. I got to sit in the driver's seat, definitely not what I'm used to.

I feel bad for the passengers who have to ride on them. I was against these since news first broke that this is what Halifax wanted to buy for this service... mark my words, they will not work out as planned.

Hey plastic, I've been meaning to ask you, as a driver - what's your opinion of the LFS? I find them much more comfortable from a passengers perspective than the D40LFs, and a lot better looking on the road. I know some drivers were having difficulty with the seat/door configuration, but what's your opinion, both driver comfort and driveability/maneuverability?

Also, I look forward to crapping my pants in the near future. Surely the hybrid artics haven't arrived yet, have they? Or perhaps 515 has been resurrected from the junk yard  Maybe they could bring back 866... I loved that bus.

I think I know what your big news is, and I think it has something to do with # 999 ;)

It does actually. Apparently 999 is back in service and it features the new Metro transit logo. Did anyone get a pic of it yet?

Yep, bus 999 is back and in new livery, and yes, I do have pics. I'll pop them up here tomorrow, as well as a shot of our latest wrap featuring the Royal Canadian Mint. The LFS is usually an ugly bus in my opinion, but it looks awesome in the new livery. Driving wise, I'm not a huge fan of the tail swing those things have, or the neck craning to see passengers. I do like that they are fast buses, but overall, not a fan of driving them.

Is that Royal Canadian Mint a mostly black ad wrap? Calgary Transit #7934 was just spotted today with a black ad wrap, but I could not recall what the wrap was on it.

Yes it is. OC Transpo 4268 is also wrapped.

As promised, here are the shots of 999. In shot #2, it looks like they might have renumbered bus 998. As bus 998 is still in service (parked around back when I took this shot), this is not the case, it was simply a sticker error.:

And might this be the Mint bus?

SWEET! The LFS looks great in the newer MT paint!

As for the black wrapped D40LF, yes that is the wrap for the Canadian Mint. We have the same wrap in Montreal on one of the STM's Nova LFS's #27-023.

That bus looks so slick now. I like it.
