MAX BRT Posted September 10, 2014 Report Posted September 10, 2014 New 2014 Gillig Low Floors are in service- Had a chance to ride 6021 today. Same as most other Gilligs, but with the same new seats as the XD60s Cool. Any word on replacements for the Mallride shuttles?
PUB Transit Posted September 11, 2014 Report Posted September 11, 2014 We'll have an idea of who's a serious bidder when RTD responds to clarifications/approved equals on Friday. Bids are due 10 Oct, and the motion to approve should go before the board mid-november. http://io.questcdn.com/questio/action/pdfViewer?jobNo=3406584&itemIndex=3476133&page=0

Its definitely interesting when a TA wants 45 feet buses for a downtown shuttle service.
PUB Transit Posted September 14, 2014 Report Posted September 14, 2014 Cobus, Van Hool, BYD, and Proterra all are interested in bidding. Interestingly, RTD will accept a 40' bus if everybody fits. http://io.questcdn.com/questio/action/pdfViewer?jobNo=3406584&itemIndex=3526059&page=0

Who the heck will make the buse with right hand drive? (perhaps thats no problem for the Europeans) And capable of running at negative 35 degrees F? Will that eliminate pure battery buses? Also a single level floor. Wow. I think epv (ex DesignLine) is the front runner. As far as I know they don't have any other work and they have built these buses before.

All Mallride buses are RHD because of the improved safety concerns and the ability to operate the wheelchair ramp. The last time there was a LHD bus, drivers took issue with it. That and the all low-floor bus is why this has been such a headache.
PUB Transit Posted September 28, 2014 Report Posted September 28, 2014 A few updates and observations: XD60s through 9350 and Gillig LFs through 6057 have been spotted at RTD's District Shops. It appears the XD60s are going to East Metro first, then Platte. the Gillig LFs are starting with Platte, and then will be disbursed to Boulder/East Metro/FT/Veolia. RTD has also announced the name for the US36 Denver-Boulder "BRT." http://rtd-fastracks.com/us36_25 Spotted this on MallRIde Shuttle 1634. Fun to see RTD's maintainece personnel having some pride.
Mr.Transit Posted October 13, 2014 Report Posted October 13, 2014 The RTD only received two bids for their 45ft Mall Shuttle bus contract...BYD and some other company Shaw International Inc?...I' m surprised that EPV didn't submit one.
MAX BRT Posted October 14, 2014 Report Posted October 14, 2014 PUB Transit, thanks for the photo! Props to all involved in that retrofit project. I'm impressed. About the Mall shuttle bids, thats big news Mr. T. Can't wait to find out more.

This is Shaw International: http://lzbusline.com/index.html They seem like a major competitor to BYD with no current US transit bus capability. I'd bet on BYD, assuming the board doesn't meddle.
Mr.Transit Posted October 17, 2014 Report Posted October 17, 2014 PUB Transit, thanks for the info...I see that Shaw International Inc represents two Chinese bus manufacturers--BonLuck and King Long bus...interesting, King Long has a model, XMQ6140B, that is a speciality vehicle that may be what the RTD is looking at.
general682002 Posted January 19, 2015 Report Posted January 19, 2015 Curious, what are the units for the Orion V for the Allison B400R and the ZF 6HP592? And, the Neoplan AN445, are they powered by Series 60 or Cummins ISM?
Detroit Diesel 6V92TA Posted January 19, 2015 Report Posted January 19, 2015 Does anyone know how many of those Gillig BRT HEV's there are in Denver RTD's fleet and what year the are from? Curious, what are the units for the Orion V for the Allison B400R and the ZF 6HP592? And, the Neoplan AN445, are they powered by Series 60 or Cummins ISM? I think all of the Orion V's have 6HP592C's and the Neoplan AN345/3's all have Cummins ISM's. RTD also has a handful of Gillig BRT hybrids:Finally, here's one of RTD's retired 1994 Gilligs with Series 50 + ZF, now in service for the University of Colorado. Do you know what year those hybrids are from and how many are there? Also, is there any chance that some of those 1994 Phantoms are still running for the university?
general682002 Posted January 20, 2015 Report Posted January 20, 2015 I think all of the Orion V's have 6HP592C's and the Neoplan AN345/3's all have Cummins ISM's. No, cause I remember they've ordered some Allison B400R for small batch. Was how many did they ordered with Allison. Here's a video of the AN445, sounds more like a truck to me!

About 20-25 of the Orions have Allisons, the first batch. The Neoplans are DD60s. I believe CU has one or two of the Phantoms running-I see them on occasion.

I don't know how long the Neoplan AN445 will last on the road as they are continue to replace with MCI. Interesting S60 sound with Jake Brake! Interesting S60 sound with Jake Brake! I think RTD is the only system that continues to run with AN445 as Port Authority retired pretty much all of it!
PUB Transit Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 Thank you. Are the fleet numbers 1401-1409? They weren't repowered with ISM's? They hybrids are the 1400 series. Special paint scheme touting enviromental benefits. The AN345s are still Detroit Diesels. RTD doesn't tend to do midlife fleet overhauls/repowerings. I don't know how long the Neoplan AN445 will last on the road as they are continue to replace with MCI. Interesting S60 sound with Jake Brake! They'll be around until at least 2016, when the next batch of MCIs (or a proper BRT bus for the Boulder/Denver BRT) arrives. They'll probably stay around for a good deal longer, as Boulder/Denver is a small part of RTD's reigonal ops. While the BRT will free up a bunch of MCIs/Neoplans, Neoplans do a lot of the driving on 36. Plus, some of the 1900s (1997 MCIs) are reguarly used as reserve coaches. Eventually, the Neoplans will fill that role too.
general682002 Posted January 24, 2015 Report Posted January 24, 2015 I understand RTD has their own City + 2 different contractors for their system, is that still happening today?
PUB Transit Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 I understand RTD has their own City + 2 different contractors for their system, is that still happening today? That's the basics, yes. In more Detail: RTD has three bus divisions (Platte, East Metro and Boulder) and one Rail Division (Elati). They subcontract some local and express services. First Transit: Has three "divisions" in the RTD Run cuts. FT Denver, FT Commerce City, and FT North. FT North's garage is in Longmont (about 10 miles NW of Boulder), and runs pretty much only in Boulder/Longmont. FT Commerce City and FT Denver run throughout the Denver Metro area. Commerce City has a different USDOT Number than FT North/Denver, because it's the former Laidlaw operation. Transdev (Formerly Veolia): They operate all over the Denver Metro. The commuter rail lines will be operated by Denver Transit Partners, a private company that was formed to build/operate those lines. Paratransit and Call-and-Ride services are exclusively outsourced, to Via Mobility, MV Transportation and Horizon Coach Lines.
PUB Transit Posted February 24, 2015 Report Posted February 24, 2015 A few more updates: All three RTD divisions (Platte, E. Metro, and Boulder) all have the 6000-series Gilligs. Haven't seen any with contractors yet. Some of the 1900-series 102-DL3s are still in active service, and are receiving CAD/AVL systems. Third week in a row where the GS has had a 1900 with the new CAD/AVL.

PUB Transit Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 Denver has recieved the first of its 3600 series MCI D4500s for the Flatiron Flyer "BRT" from Denver to Boulder. http://www.rtd-fastracks.com/us36_25 For those that care, RTD has changed headlight styles. The old version:
MAX BRT Posted June 30, 2015 Report Posted June 30, 2015 Nice photo! Any news about new MallRide shuttles being ordered?
PUB Transit Posted July 1, 2015 Report Posted July 1, 2015 There were some rumblings about the Mall Shuttles, but that seems to be a lower priority. Not sure if it's behinds the scenes with the manufactures, or the contracting people are slow-walking it so the project isn't a sacrificial lamb for the directors who are unhappy with the current mall funding agreement.
