Also public relations, shop clerk, maintenance, dress and deportment shop, fare box dumping shop. Each system may have its own unique positions, but trust me, operations is only a small part. Look around and ask around. This is spot on. That is one of the best things about TTC. There as so many other positions and jobs that people can do besides being an transit operator. Smaller transit agencies like Brampton and Mississauga transit, do not offer such a wide variety of positions.

TTC will be hiring a lot of new operators so seniority will move up relatively quickly. But, if you're having second thoughts then perhaps this isn't right for you, and you should follow advice posted above. There will be no shortage of people who will take your spot. Really? I heard the opposite. Many people stay as operators. Seniority is very slow at the TTC. They always say 5-10 yrs things will get better, I am reading that isn't the case. I have also heard that splits are very tough to adjust to. Depending on your split alot of times people sleep at the yard in their cars to avoid missing the 2nd leg of the work. OT is also apparently a must at the TTC if they need you to. On 11/25/2024 at 10:57 AM, RailBus63 said: Just curious, what attracted you to the job in the first place? What do you see as the positives of working in transit operations? The Pay & Pension and Benefits. At the same time, being a unionized environment (a rarity these days) unless you are in healthcare or government jobs (mostly). However the downside can really affect your health (i.e. how many hours you sleep as finishing "late" cuts in your own time). The also sad part is they place you where they need you. I don't live in Toronto anymore so it will suck if Queensway or Mount Dennis is where they need you. @leylandvictory2 told me this as well.
