I got a conditional offer in the middle of Jun still waiting for training date. I handed in all of the documents. Looks like it usually takes 6 months after get offer.

it looks like we are in the same time line, got a conditional offer in June, finished all the requests at the beginning of August, so im waiting for the traning date from August, however, TTC now try to hire more female operators, so I guess the queue will change in some way, I  hope we could get tranning date around Feb 2023

It just seems like they don’t have enough instructors to handle the amount of people they are hiring. Sucks for us because we have to wait. But from a business standpoint I guess it’s better to have candidates on stand by. Hope you June guys get called in January!

I know all of you guys are hyped up to start training, but just be patient, and enjoy your weekends off, family/social life, and sense of calmness while you still can. Once training at OTC starts, it will be very intense, and after day 25, when you are officially handed over to the assigned division, your lives will change forever. Goodbye family/social life, and goodbye Saturdays/Sundays off for at least several years. Not to mention being constantly tested by the attitudes of the passengers that get onboard, and the very unpredictable nature of being on spareboard at the very beginning (one day having a late relief shift, and the very next day, after only 8 hours of ESA rest time, having a split shift with a possible 12 hour spread).

I agree with you.  Actually I saw 5 training buses two days ago, all of the trainees were female. I thought at that time.  I may need to wait more than I expected. But we know that there is nothing to do except waiting. :)

Thanks for the insight. However I am curious, how long was your wait time from conditional offer to start date? How many months?

You’re not wrong. I have a colleague that works at Wilson OTC. According to them, the classes are at least 80% women every single time.

7 month wait between the conditional employment offer and actual training start date.

Rode the 300 Bloor Danforth Blue Night EB last night and it was rather eventful lol. Going to do the rest of my assignment on Monday after work. Anybody else start working on their job shadowing?

The "eventful" nature of the 300 is what you can expect to endure after day 25 and the 3 following days of Route Familiarization, until your seniority position on the roster starts to move up. My first week fresh out of training, at the very bottom of the spareboard, all I got were night bus shifts, mostly on 300, with one on the 301 as well. Talk about being fed to the lions right out the gate ?

Yeah, both of the drivers I shadowed that night were only a month on the job out of birch mount division. Hoping to be put in a division with easy climbing up seniority.

Is there such a thing?  Everybody wants to move up in seniority as soon as possible.

Yes there is. Depends on the mode and division you get assigned. I know people out of Leslie barns street car division with 10 years on them that are still junior doing splits. And then there’s people in Eglinton bus division with only a couple years climbing up quickly because they hire a lot of people around the same time. But hey I’m just relaying what I hear from other operators.

The one and only way your seniority "climbs" is if someone with more seniority than you is no longer with the company.

As time goes on, your seniority may give you more leverage more quickly in regards to work choices at one property versus another and that can be taken away very quickly if more senior employees decide to transfer.  Seniority leverage and seniority position are two very different and distinct things.

Happy Holidays!

Has anyone received a training date recently? :)

Happy holidays! Its me, ,

just got email  for the training start date (middle of Jan)

I applied on Jun 10, passed the interview on Jun 20,  finished all the documents in the beginning of Aug, and started waiting for the training date from then on,  so its total 7 months from applying to receive the training date, hope my timeline can help all the new ttc operator appliers,

I know for the new appliers, its a long way to go, many conditions, sometimes confused, not sure its correct or not, at least for me, however if you follow the steps from the recruiter, I believe all of us can make it, just the waiting period is suffering in the beginning, when u get used to it, it means U R ready.

Hello everyone,

Is there anyone else who is still waiting for training dates??? Or except me..

I got an email a few days ago from a recruiter stating that if there is an open spot for a training class they will let me know. They didn’t give me a timeline though. Could be 1 month, could be 6 ??‍♂️
