In regards to probation periods, its all in how the collective agreement is worded.  For example, where I work, new hires are on probation for "X" number of days of actual work which means not in training.  While you are in training, you are still on a probation period but those days are in addition to the "X" number days of actual work.

Lol I know for a fact it's 10 months from training date. That's why our seniority is based on first day of training. Smh done with this

Settle down there Junior - I didn't agree/disagree with you.  In fact, I didn't even respond directly to your comment. So why all huffy puffy?

1) All I said is that its in your collective agreement and I gave an example on how my collective agreement where I work is worded.  M'kay?

2) Seniority has nothing to do with probation, they are two completely different articles in any collective agreement on how they are assigned, what purpose they serve and how the company addresses both.  My seniority was also issued on my first day of training, but that has nothing to do with probation.  M'kay?

3) SMH indeed.

Youre right seniority is based on ehen we did the physical. When you look at the seniority list though it shows everyones first day of training

Seniority is based on when you complete your physical. The sooner you complete your physical the sooner you get your training date. The argument was whether or not probation started from the first day of training... so I wouldn't say it has nothing to do with it lol. Anyways huffy puffy was supposed to be directed at the misinformed ttc worker lol. Guessing you're a South Park fan lol

Seniority is based on the moment the number is given to you, if you are given a seniority number once you've completed your physical, then your seniority starts then, if you are given a seniority number on your first day of training, then your seniority starts then.   Your seniority does not begin before you receive a seniority number.

Your probation does not begin when you receive your seniority number, it starts the moment that you start actual employment (in which ever way your collective agreement may identify this) with the company.  Seniority and probation are two separate entities and are irrelevant of each other.

Instead of asking the forum and not liking the answers you’ve been given from Current Transit Operators, why not email/call local 113 and find out the answer if you don’t agree with the CBA wording?

I guarantee you all of us drivers, whether we work for TTC or not understand what a collective agreements wording is or isn’t. As a new hire you gotta be open to listening to drivers who will help you throughout your first year or two.

Thats the point I was trying to make, follow the CA and every CA is different.  Mine is very specific in how probation works in regards to how long it is and the day it starts.  The excerpt from the TTC CA is a bit more vague, "continuous service" can be interpreted differently and lead to unnecessary confusion thus I agree with your post and ask the Local directly and not rely on varying opinions from others.

Hi guys, it has been over a month since my medical but I haven't received an MTO letter in the mail. Should I contact my recruiter or wait a bit more?? Thanks!

I would, my recruiter told me to reach out if I hadn’t heard anything, sometimes they get super busy and emailing them can help the process.

I didnt even ask the question i just disagreed with what you said.  Lol you're the one bringing up this collective agreement. It was a simple answer to a simple question... whether or not training is included in the probation period. I've been on for almost 7 months now and every single operator I've asked including divisional trainers have told me the same thing. Benefits also kicked in 6 months after training date lol

I am in the same step as you are (waiting for a training date)

From what my recruiter has said to me the current estimated training start date at least for me is in January

Hi guys, I’ve also submitted my documents. Thank you to whoever shared that you must submit the MTO letter to your recruiter. I did not know that. And for those who are waiting for training dates, are we supposed to finish the job shadowing assignment while we wait? I got sent the template for the assignment with my offer but there were no instructions stating that I needed to complete the assignment.

I have heard many of things but I did the shadowing assignment when I could and emailed it to the recruiter from the ttc! ☺️

I’m at the same point too! It depends on when your references have been contacted and responded. I’m waiting for my police letter to arrive and then submitting that. I have heard January though from other people. Keep emailing though as they have to speak to many people, I found calling them is a lot more direct for updates!

Did you get a response after sending your job assignment over? And what number are you calling for updates? Thanks!

Nothing as of yet, I emailed yesterday so hoping for a response tomorrow or this week. The number I’ve been calling for updates is the number linked to the recruiter at the end of the email. Do you know how long the background check can take? That’s really the only thing im waiting for now!

Medical and background check didn’t take too long for me tbh. Max a couple weeks. But everyone has a different experience. All I know is that they hired A LOT of people. I’m hoping I get a call in January. I got my offer recently. Is anybody on here that got their offer earlier that are still waiting for a start date?

I got a conditional offer in the middle of Jun still waiting for training date. I handed in all of the documents. Looks like it usually takes 6 months after get offer.

Hi everyone,

I have a question. Is it better to take class for AZ licence before training dates from private class? Cause rite now I am unfamiliar with bus or heavy vehicle.
thanks in advance

Getting your AZ license in Ontario privately is a long process and expect to pay upwards of $5,000 to get it and pass the MTO road test. If I were you, I wouldn’t worry too much about that. They are looking for customer service experience. Focus on that. Driving experience is just an asset as the TTC spends $10,000 on every new hire to train them anyways.

Thank you for your comment on that. It’s a big relief for me now..
