Like it's sorted by training date first and then sort again by badge number I have a question for ppl who are working now,the date and time that you are working, do you need to call up and tell them you are signing in and call out to tell them you are signing out? Seniority ultimately starts on the day you start training. The medical date and time determines the seniority of people who may start training on the same day. If somebody in your training class had their medical before you, they will be senior to you. However, for some reason if you were to start training before somebody that had their medical before you, you'd be senior to them. Badge number does not necessarily indicate seniority. I know an operator that is senior to me that has a higher badge number and I also know an operator that is junior to me and has a lower badge number. Sometimes they recycle old badge numbers that no longer belong to employees and sometimes when employees transfer into different departments, they keep their badge number but their seniority within their new department starts from the bottom. Are you talking about the collector position?

We always report to our division at the beginning of our shifts, but if we get relieved on the street we don't really have to do anything else. When we take a vehicle over, we log onto its TRUMP Unit and when we exit a vehicle we log off. When we run a vehicle back into the division at the end of our shift we have to sign it in. Not sure how it works for collectors though.
ttcscarb
I have my interview on wednesday coming up but on my invite letter only one interviewer name was given but from what i heard its a 2 person interview. The person whose name is given is your placement specialist, they'll be the one calling you to congratulate you if everything goes well. It's this person that you'll send your police clearance form to when you get to that part in the process. You may also deal with the other interviewer when you're booking your conditional offer signing appointment and medical, and when you attend documentation. That's how it worked for me, I don't know if it's standard practice or not.
andyman
On the topic of badge numbers I've seen a few ops port their retired family members badge numbers to themselves and also seen ops who were previously summer students retain their badge #s many years later. I started in my late 30s and had already positioned myself nicely so I do not have to rely on a TTC pension. If you do start in your 40s you won't get a full pension but more than likely you have pensions rrsps from previous careers. It's also true the job can cause health issues but so do other jobs but many 30+ year ops do walk away in good shape. Subway ops have it the worse in my opinion being underground breathing in all that crap on a daily basis. Not always but usually you will have 2 HR reps doing the interview. 1 senior and 1 junior but not always.
ttcscarb
any last minute tips for my interview other than not being nervous? Can you take a moment to think before answering the questions or is it like rapidfire?
Oscar101
It is not like rapid fire, but you should tell them that you're doing the thinking when you need to do it. What you do need is to have rehearsed at least half a dozen, but preferably about 10 (or more, if you have) scenarios from your past work experience, adapting your answers to the STAR format. You're not allowed to use an example more than once. It is a behavioural-based interview, as they explained in the info session, so you must bring these scenarios well rehearsed and adapted to answer the questions, which will be about the skills needed for the job (see job description for that, see also previous sample questions other commenters volunteered in this forum). No need to be nervous. Be yourself. You will be more than fine.

Would you have any tips of advice in regards to the interview? I am still waiting to be contacted for one! Thanks. I actually happened to have a nice conversation with my interviewer and only tip I can give you is make sure you are very detailed with your answers and try not to generalize your answers. They are looking for specific behaviours and examples in your employment history. Good luck

I kept going off track and being excited talking about all the different things i do all the time...however the interviewers kept guiding me back to direct answers. I struggled at the start but with their prodding, I figured out exactly how specific they want you to be...VERY!

And there's no way I'm getting myself in any problems when not being paid in the name of TTC. S some of us know even when not getting paid TTC can still discipline you to some degree. Its not being antisocial its just avoiding potential problems. I know if they can throw me under the bus when on the payroll, they will do it when you're not. I just feel I have to be extra careful or this extra paranoia when I do take TTC home because of the stigma attach to the logo. But like I said I've taken the 320 and 301 a night full of drunks in uniform and never had a problem. People do ask me questions when off duty going home, and it helps that 98% of the time I have the answer.

kotraders
Here is another scenario that I would like to get some answers... You are taking subway and the kid beside you started to ride on his skateboard getting out the subway door, what do you do? Will you tell him, there is no skateboard here? You are an ttc employee now with uniform on and its your off hours

At your info session they told you around how long it will take after the info session to hear if you will be getting an interview and they told you the cut off date as to the latest they will take to contact you for an interview. If you do make it further in the hiring process, I suggest taking notes and listen very carefully to their instructions as it will be critical for the rest of the process. Good luck. I don't bother wasting my time or breath, especially if they aren't holding up service, which is all I care about. If you say something and they ignore you, then what. You know at that point its not worth calling anyone. But its up to you.
