Had my medical, received police report and left message for recruiter as it says to do but have not received any word back. I guess they are awaiting medical results and reference checks. Not sure if just to wait or call recruiter back again.....would like an aknowledgment back they had received my message. Any advice........

The recruiter would/should call you back informing you that they are waiting for your medical results to come in. At that point they will call you with a date for your documentation session and your start date.

I too am awaiting the medical results. It has been just over 3 weeks now. They called my references about a week and a half ago. The background check --what I thought would take the longest-- only took a week. I'm getting a bit anxious and I'm hoping nothing is amiss (like a clerical error or something) with the medical; over 3 weeks seems like a while to not hear anything back, but what do I know...

Just hoping I hear something soon.

Agreed the whole process seems to be moving rather quickly......Did you get a start date and assigned location Loco?

I've received my start date, but not much else. I'm going in for documentation tomorrow, where she will probably give me division and mode. Side note: I hear streetcar is the most difficult to grasp, but I won't mind any mode. :)

I heard Wilson has a shortage of bus drivers. So you may be assigned to Wilson. The hardest thing about streetcar IMO is the clearance.

Good luck, all I know is that their is a lot of drivers who are due for retirement. I am hoping for Queensway, but it is a smaller division.

Good luck for that! Many seniors like to stay there, so it's impossible to get in!

Malvern is also a senior division.

Actually it is not impossible. You can request a transfer based on compassionate ground. I would rather work in a junior division. The reason being you can move up (senority) relatively quickly. The more seniority you have, the better work you will get.

What high failure rate? That should'nt be happening.

That's what they told us during my info session.

Is that for the CZ license? All I can say is just do what they say and you should pass.

Yep! Will definitely be paying attention and absorb it all like a sponge.

Just work hard and listen what the trainer tells you to!

I will. Thanks for the advice :)

I hope so! Assuming I can get pass the training...that high failure rate they talk abt scares the crap out of me.

Rubbish. The passing rate varies. My group has a 100% passing rate and the group after mine has a 50% passing rate. So it depends. The drivers at any division will try to scare you. Don't listen to them as the training has changed a lot since they went through it.

If you successfully passed the program, you will get CZ license. Z license is pretty easy to get. All you have to do is to memorize. I found the driving component more difficult as you get very little time behind the wheel.

This is a general reply to anybody going through hiring, not necessarily a direct reply to leylandvictory2:

Everybody's experience is different. You will get your cz licence at around the midpoint of the course. The hardest part of the bus course is the right turns, esp. the alternate right turns. Usually you are paired up two to one instructor to one bus, so there is plenty of driving time imo. You could fail the course for various reasons including two unsatisfactories on regular days. It will all be explained to you on the first day. Wear a tie and a smile, be on time, pay attention, ask questions when you don't understand. You'll do fine.

The drivers at the division like to embellish their stories, but generally there is a high failure rate, and if the training/recruiting people are telling you about high failure rates, it's the truth.

When I first drove a 45 ft. Motor Coach, during my first right turn, I jumped the curb. The second time, just touched the curb. The third time, I mastered the trick of right turns without touching the curb. The trick to it is to drive straight into the intersection and after your shoulders have passed the white stop line, begin to turn the steering wheel. Don't be afraid of taking up 2 lanes as doing so would be advantages to give yourself space from other motorists. Same thing turning left but you have to do it sharply kind of like a 90 degree turn. You'll eventually get used to it!

^^I appreciate all the advice, guys! This forum is great. I just can't wait until the day when I am comfortable and confident on the job.

Another question: Was it difficult to memorize all the routes? I'm not sure how many Wilson Div. has, but I hope to God I don't make wrong turns and get lost with a bus full of people. LOL
