Hi long time lurker, just joined thanks everyone, wonderful team on  this board.

Finally got the email after many many many years of applying. Aptitude Test and Information Session: March 29th 2017.

I went through the boards as best as I could but I am confused as to how does one qualify for subway or streetcar or are the majority of graduates placed in bus roles due to operational needs as I heard bus needs are always higher? Would it be fair to not get excited about being placed in streetcar of subway as its so rare yet my dream:lol:

As far as timelines go from information session to training date, I've gathered the norm at 5-6 months (from what Ive read and heard) but have heard it happen as quick as 6 weeks? What would the ballpark figure be for an estimated timeline? It would be beneficial to know as time is needed to give up current employment, deal with family matters, etc.

Thanks so much!! Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

@LocomotiveZen congrats on your information session! You are assigned to a mode and work location based on the needs of the business. I wouldn't hold my breath for subway or streetcar; even though streetcar is my preferred mode.

As for a timeline; my info session was on November 15, 2016 and I am going for my documentation on March 29th. I would say 5-6 months is a good ballpark for a timeline. As for your current job; the TTC gives 2 weeks notice before your training starts, so don't quit your job unnecessarily early.

Hope this helps.

If you need more than two weeks notice, ask them at documentation.  Some people in my group requested to be notified as early as possible.   You are still in the same order but they call you right away as opposed to waiting until two weeks before.

Also even if you get bus, I heard it's very easy to bid into streetcars after your 2 years.

Anyone here that was at the information session on Wednesday January 25, 2017.  How long does it usually take for the TTC to contact the references?  And are they using a third party to contact references?  I was told it can take between 4 to 6 weeks after interview to hear anything back.

They contact through 3rd party

Hi everyone, really anxious. >.< Test tomorrow.

Has anyone done the aptitude test recently, how hard is it? Are most questions related to driving and or other proficiency related questions or is it mostly random unrelated questions?

Good luck tomorrow! The questions are mostly "random unrelated". As you may have read in previous posts, the most important part of this step and any further steps in the hiring process is to listen carefully to the instructions provided. On the aptitude test, aim for accuracy of each question as opposed to trying to rush through them in the limited time frame allotted. I completed roughly half of the questions, and passed onto the interview/employment offer. Once again, Good luck :)

Good luck.  There will be a lot of people, just try to relax and listen to all the instructions they give you.  For the test, it's all unrelated.  You can find practice tests online if you search wonderlic to see what they are like.

It's important not to get too caught up on one hard question and waste too much time on it imo.  Wrong answers don't count against you, so better to guess and move on rather than dwell on something and get stuck.  On the other hand, don't get in a flow of just guessing and moving on.

So I sent a little email to my HR placement specialist to inquire about a projected training start date the other day and just received a response. Apparently there are quite a few people in waiting pool A, so it IS estimated I will start training in Early June. Just have to keep busy in the meantime B)

Hey @ttcgirl from rating of 1 to 10, 10 being hardest, how hard are the test? Don't need details just rate the difficulty please.

@NuggetRocket As long as you study the information, the tests (up to Day 13) are about a 9-10.

The tests will obviously become more challenging closer to end of training when you are actually driving in revenue.

Hope that helps!

Difficulty will always be subjective.  For subway people always said it was going to be hard, failure rate was highest...Etc....But personally I thought it was really easy as long as you listen and do the homework.  It seems hard at first since you are learning something completely new but the trainers give you so much time and instruction its overkill.

I guess the important part is to study as if every test will be 10/10 difficulty, then you'll be laughing when you get the actual test!

9-10 difficulty out of 10 for tests up to day 13 is a bit excessive no? with that scale im assuming day 16 and 25 actual driving tests will be 20 out of 10 difficulty lol

There are tests where you drive in revenue with actual passengers? Which day is that?

Sorry! I rated in reverse. I should have said 1-2..... possibly 3. The tests are pretty straight forward. You just have to understand the air brakes to verbally do that test.

You drive in revenue with trainers on days 16, 17 and 18. Your day 25 test is your final test (in revenue) on your own.

sunglasses are encouraged while driving on a sunny day.  i suggest you get a good pair.

Serengetti sunglasses are currently on sale at Costco for this week.  They are great driving sunglasses which self adjust to brighter or darker situations.
