Any new route that serves the EFL should connect either with Skytrain Stations to the north (Joyce, Patterson, Metrotown), or to the Canada Line, if not both. The route to 22nd would be terrible for a most people that actually need to go west or north to get to downtown, UBC, Metrotown, etc.

Also, I think service to the EFL would be a regular 40ft bus in short order, due to the high density and large number of people that will be living in the area.

It wouldn't be necessary.  Given that those stops are not very busy, the service provided by the 110 and 136 would be sufficient to provide service.  The only unique stop is Gaglardi Way/Broadway which is isolated from the neighborhood, within walking distance of the 110 or 136 and is nowhere near busy enough to justify a route by itself.

I don't know if TransLink plans on keeping the 145 after the Gondola is built so I just left it there for now, personally I hope it gets discontinued so it's resources can be used elsewhere.

Is a B-Line along 49th Avenue a good idea? I personally think it is because the 49 is continuously getting busier and the route is getting to the point where it will soon be unable to add anymore trips. Sure you could say "But the 91 B-Line is only 8 blocks away" but who wants to:

a) Pay 2 zones between Joyce and Metrotown?

B) Have unnecessary transfers?

c) Experience similar crowding that is experienced on the 49?

Yes the 430 will become a B-Line in the early 2020s but it will only serve 1/3 of 49th Ave and it will be serving some of the less busy areas of E 49th.

Having a B-Line travel along 49th Avenue from UBC to Metrotown Station will:

a) Decrease travel times, passups, and overcrowding

B) Increase frequency and capacity

c) Increase load/unload speeds with all-door boarding

d) Attract most riders along 49th Avenue

The 49 would see a large reduction in frequency (about every 15 min) and may be converted to regular 40 foot buses as majority of the 49's stop activity occurs within 1-2 blocks of the proposed B-Line.

I don't think having two B-Line to be so close is a good idea.

 

What I think could be a good idea is add an all-day express route along the 49th that will have frequency on-par with the current 49 but not as frequent as B-Bus.

Just like a coupe of blocks away from 99 B-Bus there is 84 Express (and on the more busy western part, 44 Express), and before the 95 there is 135 Express.

 

 

Another alternative would be just extending 91 B-Bus to Metrotown, since Metrotown is a major town center in Burnaby.

Should we add a turn back siding somewhere along the southern part of the Canada Line to improve its frequency?

 

Canada Line is very crowded these days, it would be even worse with the opening of the Broadway extension.

However I don't think there is a easy way to add more car as this may require expanding a lot of the underground stations along the line.

Given by the short length of Canada Line trainset,  however, I believe we could improve its frequency.

Currently the combined frequency is 3 minutes and I believe 90s frequency is achievable since Paris Line 14 was able to do that even on using a 90 meter long train.

But the turn back ability at Richmond-Bridgehouse and YVR Airport is not enough to support a 90s frequency. We need another turn back siding somewhere.

 

If we should, where? 

Another two tracks to the East of where the potential Capstan Way station would be, forming a total of 4 tracks where the outside 2 tracks are used for future station and continue going on to Richmond-Bridgehouse and the middle 2 track for reversing direction only?

Why not just expand Brighouse? The properties across the street are getting redeveloped soon.

Which properties are you talking about ? Cause I'm pretty sure they just completed a new condo right next to the station house just last year.

If we can easily expand Landsdowne-Brighouse into two track, yes.

 

I am not sure if this is doable since this would involved closing one northbound lane of the No.3 or putting the tracks to be too close to a new condo at 6068 No 3 Rd.

Also I believe the redevelopment around the station had already been done.

You mean the building with the HSBC on the ground floor? They would probably need to build the second track over it.

Regardless, it would be difficult to add a second track to the current platform without relocating utilities and the such.

Rebuilding the station might not be any much cheaper than creating a single-track loop through Richmond to keep trains moving.

Alternatively for improved Canada Line service into Richmond, there could be some "easier" solutions compared to rebuilding the portion between Lansdowne and Richmond-Brighouse, rebuilding Richmond-Brighouse, or adding guideway. These are just some random thoughts and suggestions:

  1. Reduce dwelling time at Richmond-Brighouse since trains stop for about two minutes
  2. If dwelling time is absolutely needed, do it at Lansdowne
  3. Change the operating pattern from 1 train to Brighouse and 1 train to YVR to 2 trains to Brighouse and 1 to YVR during peak hours, similar to how the Expo Line runs, which means combined frequency will go to every 2 minutes instead of 3
  4. Maintain daytime frequency into the evening along the entire line (which depends on how frequency changes, operating patterns, etc., but pretty much a variation of the present 3 minutes combined, 6 on branches)

I am not sure you can have an average frequency of 3 minutes on the Lansdowne-Richmond section even if you reduce the dweling time....the single track section looks long.

I mean the simplest solution for Brighouse is just build the 2nd platform across the street. Have the track split in half where it currently reduces to one track, current track on the current side of the street, the new track on the west side of 3 road, and have them rejoin south of the station.

An idea as terrible and as analogous as possible to the TTC subway interlining trial - at least unless they extend the line southwards to avoid confused riders taking over the streets!

would be the easiest...there is virtually nothing important in Capstan Way, making construction relative easy. 

The capacity at Richmond-Bridgehouse should be good enough under a 6 minute frequency schedule, what I am really worried about regarding to Canada Line's capacity would come from all the connection buses at Bridgeport and the massive redevelopment at Oakridge. 

With 2 tracks for turning, we could potentially reach a frequency of 3 minutes for trains terminating at Capstan Way's turn back line. This would give a combined total 90s frequency between Bridgeport and Waterfront.

I don't think Bridgeport Station will be bad when it has 21-22 routes serving it as 12 additional trains would be serving the station as well (assuming that all 12 new trains will actually be in service during peak times).

 

In regards to SeaBus, how much longer does the Burrard Beaver have for its lifespan? I feel like a replacement vessel should be included in the Phase 3 plan.
