stm_5307N Posted October 5, 2011 Author Report Share Posted October 5, 2011 The SIM has started to scrap the 1988 Freightliner / Phoenix C.O.E's now with the arrival of the new 2011 E-One pumpers. All the 1988 Frightliner's are spares and the remaining first line 1992 Frightliner's will soon be bumped down to spares as well. The oldest pumper that was with the SIM but hasn't seen the light of day in a long time was also scrapped, which was unit #282 a 1985 International Cargostar. I've personally never seen this truck in person before. So that leaves one International Cargostar in the fleet #200, which is a 1986 unit. stm_5307N Posted October 17, 2011 Author Report Share Posted October 17, 2011 Well it came fast right after the retirement of SIM #282, now the last International COE pump #200 has been retired as of today. This marks the end of International COE trucks in the SIM fleet. Here's a pic of SIM #200 on one if its last calls during this passed summer when it served with station 46 as a spare replacing pump 246 which had mechanical issues. Where getting 4 T-Rex's which will replace are active first line Bronto's #734, 739, 749 and 771. Rumor has #771 a 91 Simon Duplex D9600 Bronto will become reserve afterwards. As for the other Bronto's original to the SIM, don't know if they will be scrapped yet. Its nicknamed the 'yellow banana' for obvious reasons by Montreal firefighters. Montreal usually keeps engines on roster for 25 years before sending them to the scrapper. We just got rid of the final 1986 pumpers in 2011 and the 1988 pumpers are slowing being getting retired now. Well you're definitely going to want to check out station 31. It's home to the oldest active first line fire engine #231 which is a 1990 Mack MR / Thibault pumper. stm_5307N Posted January 31, 2012 Author Report Share Posted January 31, 2012 In 2004 station 79 in the borough of Hampstead closed its doors due to unsafe conditions in regards to the stations structure. A temporary station was made next door but got closed again for the same reasons in 2007. Hampstead lost its fire station and service to the residents of this borough has since been done by stations 4 and 78. The engines that were at station 79 were relocated to other stations around the island. The ladder unit 479 which is a 2007 E-One Cyclone II, has since been renumbered 418 and is at station 18. The pumper unit on the other hand still carries its old Hampstead station numbers on it unit 279! It was relocated to station 63 in Dorval since 2007 were it still remains to this day with its old numbers. So starting next year and over the course of the next 5 years, the SIM will receive 35 Maxi-Metal VIO model pumpers. I'm pretty sure this contact of new pumpers will eliminate all spare Mack's and Freightliner's from the roster and send down all first line Spartan Gladiators built in 1995-96 as spares. I never got a photo of the spare tanker when it was with the SIM which they numbered 6081 and was a 1988 Volvo white/GMC, as station 56 is so out of the way. It so happens that I recently found that spare rented SIM tanker that was number 6081. Here it is minus the SIM door decals and fleet number sitting at a diesel repair shop in Sorel, Qc.
